We can connect to this because in our personal lives, we have authority figures we look up to and have to obey such as our teachers, principals, parents, elders, etc. For example, many of our parents think that forcing us to become doctors/engineers is okay whereas we think that that is wrong and that we should have a choice for our career. They attempt to enforce it by using the "I'm your mom/dad/guardian and you should do what I say" so oftentimes we are afraid to say anything otherwise.

We can connect because there are times when we don't want to be obedient towards our parents if they tell us to do something. We listen to them most of the time because we feel obligated and respectful towards them. We also think that they would know better because they have more experience than us. However, there are some times where we don't want to follow their rules because we feel that it is not right and we are being forced.

All of us have been in the presence of a higher power before. Often times this higher power influenced our decision or made our decision for us. For example, it could be our parents or teachers telling us to do our work and most of the time we obediently listen because we feel inferior to them.

We can connect to the Milgram Experiment with our the authority figures present in our lives such as parents and teachers. At times, this obedience can extend to friends (peer pressure). Another situation rose with people not questioning authority. It occurred with priests in the Roman Catholic Church having issues with sexual abuse. Though this goes against the Catholic belief system, the people around them did not report the abuse because of the power priests hold.

This connects to another experiment we know of which was conducted at Stanford. People were assigned positions as police officers and others as prisoners. In this experiment, over time the police offers acquired a superiority complex as a result of simply being told that they are better by the authority figure conducting the experiment. The police officers began abusing and torturing the prisoners, despite the fact they were all equal colleagues in reality.

I can connect to this experiment because there are always going to be authority figures in our lives. We are always told to trust them and respect them no matter what. Rebellious activity is seen as wrong and so we are taught from a young age to listen, conform, and that independent actions are only good if they follow the rules that are set by the superior. People will listen to an authority figure because that is what they have been taught to do. We are always under an authority figure and so we can all connect to this.
