AI can help me ensure that my emails are clear, well-structured, and directly answer the recipient’s questions. I have already started using the prompt, “Ask me any questions you may have before you respond,” when adding information to ensure clarity and engagement in conversations. This small but effective adjustment helps maintain a human-centered approach.

My first AI-supported project will be updating a State Assessment training guide. I’ll use AI to compare my existing "how-to" guide with the state's new version to identify necessary updates. While AI will assist in analyzing differences, I’ll personally review all changes to ensure accuracy, clarity, and usability, keeping the guide practical and user-friendly for my colleagues.

Could that mean Claude's developers understand that hiring employees does not necessarily follow an unbiased approach based on data alone, while at the same time understand that the data itself may not necessarily be accurate?

Also the image generation, while consistent with the "corporate grey or blue suits" for the board members that were generated seems to be generating various "ideal" boards. However I assume it is also generated by the data, and the origin of system generating the image - in this case Canva which is based in Australia.

I also think the prompt leads to the same generic looking results. By simply altering it - "Generate an image of an educational company’s leadership team based in Los Angeles California, showing it's diverse population sitting in a boardroom that does not look like a corporate office." - generated better result.

One specific way I plan to use AI in my work as an educator is to generate differentiated instructional materials tailored to varying student abilities. For example, I can use AI tools to quickly create reading passages at multiple Lexile levels, generate comprehension questions, or adapt existing content for English language learners and students with learning differences. This allows me to offer more inclusive and personalized learning experiences without spending excessive time on manual modifications. It also helps in preparing multiple versions of quizzes or practice activities to support formative assessment strategies.

While AI can assist with content generation, I will ensure that all instructional materials are reviewed and revised by me before being shared with students. I will incorporate my understanding of individual student needs, cultural context, classroom dynamics, and current learning goals. Importantly, I will use student feedback and ongoing performance data to refine materials in a way that AI cannot anticipate. By doing this, I maintain the personal connection and responsiveness that are essential in education. My students aren’t just data points—they are unique learners who benefit from both the efficiency of AI and the empathy, judgment, and care that only a human educator can provide.

On one hand, I'm hopeful about the increase in productivity and the creative possibilities that AI can unlock. On the other hand, I worry that constant reliance on it could cause people to lose touch with their own problem-solving and critical thinking skills. Personally, I hope to see AI used as a true thought partner, something that helps me work smarter, cultivate new ideas, and expand what I can accomplish, while still requiring me to engage my own mind. To me, the real benefit of AI will come when it complements human intellect rather than replaces it.

These gaps reveal how hiring can unintentionally favor candidates with connections to prestigious schools, Fortune 500 companies, or large-scale projects—advantages often tied more to privilege than actual skill. By placing too much emphasis on financial impact, prestige, or flashy innovations, we risk overlooking equally qualified individuals with strong technical skills, leadership abilities, and community-focused achievements. A fairer approach is to review resumes without names or schools, examine accomplishments in context (what they achieved with the resources available), use balanced rubrics that value skills, leadership, and ethics equally with scale, and include diverse reviewers.

The outputs reveal biases related to gender, race, education, and employer prestige. For example, the image depicted only African American women in leadership, implying that women of a certain race are expected to dominate caring professions. Similarly, the resume evaluations favored candidates with experience at elite universities or Fortune 500 companies, while undervaluing equally strong community-level or non-traditional achievements. These patterns suggest underlying assumptions that women are naturally more compassionate, that prestigious schools signal higher competence, and that large corporate results matter more than proportional or ethical impact.

I just hope that the human element of thinking and learning is not eliminated. If people rely on AI to do the "thinking" for them, then we lose our own critical thinking skills. We still need to question information for ourselves to make sure the information we are being provided is true and correct.

One way I plan to utilize AI in my work is as a thought partner during brainstorming sessions and as a personal assistant to aid with scheduling and time management. I've already leaned on AI in this way during my graduate studies, and it made a big difference in helping me stay organized. My first planned project is to use Motion, an AI-powered app, to manage my calendar. It can automatically block time for meetings, track deadlines, and even shuffle tasks around if my priorities change. Having AI keep track of all the moving parts will free me up to focus on the bigger picture, rather than getting lost in the details.

At the same time, I recognize the importance of keeping the human side front and center. For me, that means not letting AI become the "decider." If Motion suggests a meeting time, I'll still check in with people personally to ensure it works for them, rather than relying solely on the app's suggestion. And while I'll utilize AI to capture ideas or organize my thoughts, I'll make space for honest conversations and collaboration with my colleagues, because that's where creativity and connection really happen. In short, AI will help me handle the logistics, but the human element of listening, empathy, and personal interactions will always guide the way I work.

When I inputted the resumes into chatgpt, it stated "One important note first: ranking candidates from resumes alone can introduce bias if we overweight prestige signals like school names, branding, or inflated accomplishment claims. A fairer approach is to score against job-relevant criteria. Since you didn’t provide the job description, I’ll do a resume-based comparative ranking using broadly relevant AI/ML hiring dimensions." It was willing to proceed however did address the potential biases.

For the image, the images included minimal diversity, included all able-bodied individuals.

My first plan for AI will be to have it support me in modifying the design of slides to align with formatting requirements; I will use effectively prompting and the TCREI framework to provide context and desired outputs, while continuing to adhere to safety and privacy requirements. This will enhance my productivity for I am not using it to modify the "content" of the training, though rather to support the way that trainees engage and receive the content. I always plan to maintain the human element to use of AI by using AI to provide ideas, and ultimately, I will be the one to make the decision and weigh how much I want to consider AI's suggestion. I will always modify or validate the responses that AI gives me, and take responsibility for its output, with acknowledgement of contributions of AI, when I am the one presenting the information.
