BBC have responded to competition by heavily promoting their YouTube channel during the broadcasts. This is because they have performances in their Live Lounge segment and there exclusive interviews/games. Their Youtube channel named 'BBC Radio 1' currently has 4.5 million subscribers. On their homepage, all of their videos are sectioned with BBC Radio Live Lounge being their most watched videos so that is the first section shown.

New platforms, including smart speakers, such as Amazon Echo, are changing the way people access audio services.
Radiocentre’s Siobhan Kenny said: “We have some research on the way people are using the Amazon Echo in the home and interestingly, some 70% are using it to listen to radio and discovering new stations. So, there are opportunities as well as threats – let’s not forget, we still have 90% of the population listening to radio.”

The BBC is "reinventing" its popular iPlayer service to better compete with video on demand giants like Netflix and Amazon Instant Video by personalising content for users who will soon be forced to sign in.
The key for the BBC to achieve this ambitious goal is around personalisation. The success of Netflix to date has hinged on it being a personalised content platform. Users sign in to their account and the machine learning algorithms adapt what it pushes on customers depending on previous viewing habits.
The BBC director general Tony Hall has already spoken about the "MyBBC revolution" to reinvent the BBC's various public service broadcasting streams -- including news -- around better personalisation, and iPlayer seems a natural place to focus these efforts.

BBC Boosts Kids’ Programming to Fend Off Streaming Services, Social Media

The BBC is sinking an extra £34 million ($44 million) into its children’s services to fight off competition from Amazon, Netflix, YouTube, and U.S.-owned social media platforms such as Facebook.

The U.K. public broadcaster said the money would come from cost savings elsewhere in the BBC Corporation, and that the extra cash would be used across its CBeebies service, which caters to preschool kids, and CBBC, which is for older children.

The BBC said it would invest in “new forms of content and interactivity.” On the TV side, the BBC is by far the largest funder of original programming for kids in the U.K., with ITV and Channel 4 having scaled back after rules curbing ads for unhealthy food limited the commercial value of kids’ TV for them. The BBC has, however, faced new competition from streaming services Amazon and Netflix, both of which have invested heavily in kids’ content, mostly out of the U.S.
The £34 million will be distributed over the next three years and takes the overall kids budget to £124 million.

Tony Hall, the BBC’s director general, said: “We’re making BBC Children’s fit for the future, maintaining our world-class channels whilst enhancing our online offer to meet the needs of the next generation.”
