Title: Comeback

Authors: Claire and Mia Fountaine

Rating: 8.5

Why I gave it my rating: It has a confusing start to the book, but pulls you in and is an overall great book. It releases your interest at times, but always pulls you right back in. Make sure you are the appropriate reading range because there is a lot of cursing within the book.

Summary: This book is about a mother and daughter relationship that takes a turn for the worst when Mia, the daughter, runs away. When she runs away she wants to forget her pain with drugs. Self harm, and other activities that fourteen year olds should not be doing. She went from an A student at one of the best schools in Los Angeles to running the streets and getting by drinking and getting high. The reader follows the rough yet interesting journey as they mature and grow together and farther apart. This is a great read, and it shows the reader how hard life can get for some people and how it can be fixed if they want it to be fixed.

Describe a significant lesson learned in the piece you read. This lesson could be learned by a character, or could be something the reader is meant to learn. Explain why this lesson is significant.

The reader learns that a mother to child relationship is in most ways the most forgiving one you will ever have. The mother with always be there for the child and when the mother needs to care for the child she will be there for her. Mia and Claire’s relationship hits hard turns that many child to mother’s don’t experience. When Mia’s ‘Ex-Dad’ is found doing terrible and unthinkable things to Mia, and when Claire finds out she has to think about how to handle the situation and she decides to file a lawsuit. This is one of the many things that changes their relationship, and brings them closer, yet farther apart. When Mia thinks she is getting too close and thinks the only way to not hurt her mother is to push herself away from her mother by running away. She takes her life in her own hands, when Claire tries everything while losing their relationship, they find the boot camp in Eastern Europe. Which changes Mia’s life for the better and really brings them closer together when Mia decides she still needs her mother. This lesson is significant because no matter what the mother will always stand by her child’s side, even in the hardest of times they are still there for them and want to help and comfort their child.

This is a picture of the school/bedrooms. In the book you imagine something more confined and much worse than this for as what Mia says the windows are locked and don't open more than a few inches, and there is no escape. This building looks almost inviting and not harmless, this picture is important because it shows and helps you realize how she lived for many months until the founders were accused of abuse.
