Basically the world is seen through white people eyes and makes it a white wold so we as black people wouldn't really know what they come from fo real for real.

The article connects to double consciousness because it touches on the topic of some people not wanting to be referred to as African American and rather just be called black. Which is them not accepting their African side which is apart of them. This shows that they view being African negatively because of how it is presented to us in paragraph 3 it states "Today we still view Africa as a “Dark Continent” which is filled with misery, poverty, and starvation, but this was not always the case."

In paragraph 6 of my article it states "Enslaved Africans were forced to substitute drums with hand clapping and feet tapping because slave “masters” banned drums". With this specific part, someone is stripping apart of their culture and replacing it with something else so they can be up. They as in slave masters felt that Africans can use the drums as a form of communication, like another language. Also in paragraph 6 it states "n several African communities after learning they could be used as an obscure form of communication.". This connects with the previous statement, this was a form of double consciousness because in their culture they had different ways of communication.

In paragraph 7 it talks about educational systems talk about France and Britain while Africa and African areas are still misinformed or ignored. They focus on European culture making that the normal so people try to put themselves in that group or feel as if they are not apart of anything. That's how the article connects to double consciousness.

"African Americans have a fragile identity. During slavery, we lost all knowledge of who we were before being enslaved"this connects to double consciousness because while we were enslaved the "slave masters" would give us new identity's the only thing we knew was that we were a "🤬".The white folks always would switch our history around.Slavery have had a big impact on African Americans because of the trauma. But even during slavery we kept up some of our identity like the songs they used to sing while they were working.

The article connects to double consciousness because not only does the people of africa have to deal with finding their roots things such as their names, languages, customs, then having to turn around and listen to people say Africa is just this dark continent to never speak of but they have to also deal with how people treat them having to run away from their background. In paragraph 1 it states,¨The slave masters stripped Africans of their names, their languages, their culture and customs, and of their history. Not only this, but Africa has always been depicted as a negative place filled with savages and cannibals.¨ Also in paragraph 6 it states, ¨I think one of the reasons why so many African people living in the United States and the Caribbean do not like thinking of themselves as African is because of the collective ignorance that many of us still have about our African roots and why those roots are important.¨

I think this is an example of Double Consciousness because these students are observing that the label African American constantly comes with negative stereotypes and discrimination, hence their avoidance of it. (They don't want to be viewed as anything other than a fellow American by their peers)

When your inception as a people begins with you in chains, it greatly affects how you see yourself.” also stated in paragraph 2, “ Concurrently, non-black historians and anthropologists have been imposing their opinions and assessments on OUR history, while having complete autonomy over THEIRS. Every time we’ve tried to reconnect with Africa, and embrace our blackness, non-blacks have tainted with our movements.“ This evidence shows how historically black identities have been taking away and “white washed” by non-black/white culture. It’s as cause a negative affect how black men and women see them selfs.

I feel that these articles connect with double consciousness because they each give that one piece that supports the whole puzzle. You have people of one culture trying to adapt and claim other cultures(#3). Then you have people of one culture stripping others of their culture (#4). Next is the culture that sort of settle, (#2), Tara states that African Americans see themselves as Black. I was always informed that "Black" isn't a race, but a color. Lastly the act of finally knowing your heritage, (#1), DNA test gives you a lot of information about your past, that can help you connect with family and yourself in general.

#2 Why our African Identity Matter this article connects to double consciousness because africans were stripped from thier african roots and also africans struggled to identity with being american with the constant discrimantion. Article #3, #4, and #1 connects to the overall message of double consciousness because it shows how african history was heavely erased from african people while they struggled to find thier true selves this can cause group low self esteem because people tend to look down on african because of the negative things said about thier culture.

It’s as cause a negative affect how black men and women see them selfs. With the overall problem with oppression on black men and women cause them to over think and only care about how people see them. It causes them to not be there best self’s.

All these articles relate to double consciousness because in the first article Ancestry.com is trying to change who she is because being from Nigeria is apparently not a good look and she can’t genuinely feel like herself because they are trying to make her something else. In all these articles they basically struggle with being themselves and can’t happily live by their actual culture and enjoy rituals and things that make them who they are because of the way people try to down play them and make it seem like something is wrong with that.
