I would use traditional fairy tales because they are actually a part of the Bildungsplan. Students are supposed to learn about the stereotypical features of a story and traditional fairy tales usually provide it.

Moreover, fairy tales are a kind of common knowledge in a culture.

On the other hand, traditional fairy tales always have an "out-dated" perspective on gender roles and life in general. To break with this tradition, it would be a possibility to use feminist fairy tales.

I would use feminist fairy tales because these can break with the traditional view on specific gender roles.
They can empower/encourage young girls to pursue their dreams. Also feminist fairy tales can show that women can be independent, that they don't need men to "be rescued" or "saved". In contrast to this, boys can learn that there are more than stereotypical/traditional/conservative gender roles. In my opinion this is sometimes still a problem nowadays. Some men still expect women to be/behave/act in a certain way. But again... the same applies to women as well.

Moreover, a plot twist of a traditional fairy tale is something surprising and might start a conversation beyond the scope of a specific lesson.

I would use traditional fairy tales for literary learning as they often contain several stilistic devices which contribute to a general literary knowledge and can be transfered to other genres (e.g. the development of the plot, certain phrases).
However it is important to also discuss the contents very critically in class and maybe put those "traditional" fairy tales in contrast to "modern" ones.

I would also use feminist fairy tales in the classroom. Besides of the fact that feminist fairy tales can be empowering for girls, they can also demonstrate a view of the world where men and women are treated equally so boys growing up with this vision may be able adopt this idea of equality and act respectfully towards men and women.
