I wanted to try pointillism for this challenge so I looked it up online. I did some reading on what pointillism is and how it came about, I looked through quite a few artist's works. I decided to do my copycat from Albert Dubois-Pillet's pointillism painting, 'The banks of Marne at dawn' (1886). I decided to use more vibrant colours in my copycat, as I am often more drawn to them and thought that using bolder colours would make it easier for me. I found the painting style a bit challenging because I haven't painted in the pointillism style before, but I enjoyed the process of it and found it quite relaxing after I got into it.

I find the use of colour in Dubois-Pillet's 'Banks of the Marne at Dawn' to be really beautiful and makes you look at the painting more deeply, as the colours and composition draw you in. I enjoy this piece as it feels both real and make-believe due to the pointillism technique, the pastel colours and the variety of them (such as the purple hills in the background) and the composition of shapes created. It makes this an interesting and enjoyable painting and a fun one to recreate in my own way, through this copycat challenge.
