Overall people of different ethnic religions were recognized for being so. This sadly led to them getting targeted and labeled. The Khmer Rouge had also persecuted those who were more educated and intelligent such as doctors or lawyers. This would have negatively affected the injured during the actual Extermination stage with injuries or ideas to calm the people down. Those such as doctors would be needed when it came to injuries or attacks from the group yet they were persecuted first leaving the people in a bad place.
