With so many wonderful books, articles, news, etc, it was hard to choose. But if I must, I think the best thing that I have read this year so far would be the Qualify Trilogy. It talks about a girl who must compete with thousands to get off of Earth with the assistance of ancient humans from a different planet because of an incoming asteroid. It was like the Hunger Games mixed with Cinderella, The Selection, Divergent, and many other great fiction books while incorporating sci-fi. With a total page count of 2240, it is by far the longest and the best book series I've read.

My biggest success in Language Arts this year would be first of all, knowing that language arts isn't supposed to be capitalized. Besides that, I'm really proud of knowing how to correctly write a character analysis. I learned how to do the intro paragraph, body, and conclusion of a 5 paragraph essay. As Mrs. Harmonson said, this will be a skill useful in my high school years as well. It was fun to look back at my first character analysis and see how much I have improved since the beginning of the year.

This was a project as well as a presentation. It was based off of a book we read, A Long Walk To Water, a story with a parallel plot about and boy and a girl. We wrote this as if the two character were talking together, thus giving it the name "two voice poem".

Socratic Seminar

The Socratic Seminar was a method of discussing ideas, originating from the philosopher Socrates who believed in asking questions. The two topics we has seminars about are Civil Rights, and what the novel A Christmas Carol changed in the world. I think this is a fun activity and I would encourage other 7th graders to do as well. It helps me practice public speaking, but unlike an actual formal presentation, you do it while sitting down, so it wasn't as much pressure. What I like about it is that it is very civil and usually pretty calm, while allowing everyone's opinions to be heard.
