• There are approximately 1,200 missing and murdered Indigenous Women in Canada 
• it is believed that the correct number of killings and disappearances is estimated closer to 4,000 women
• Previous Prime Minister Stephen Harper’s government has so far resisted calls for a national inquiry, despite pressure from native organizations, international human rights group and all of Canada’s provincial premieres
• It is systimatic violence 
• 70% of murdered aboriginal women killed by indigenous men: RCMP
• Highway of tears.... it is a highway in B.C where around 40 women have gone missing since 1969-2011. Women would hitchhike for example, from parties to their house and men came to pick them up, they abused them and raped them and discarded their bodies around the highway. The distance from where they were to their destination was too far so they would have to hitchhike. - Each of the points above are in the “Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada: Calls you Action” and should be enforced by the Canadian Government.
- In 2016, Ontario was to spend $100 million over the next 3 Years on a long term strategy to end violence against Indigenous women.
- The money will go towards better police investigation, support for Indigenous families and legal help.
- The strategy also incorporates many of the Calls to Action in the Truth and Reconciliation by having mandatory indigenous cultural competency and anti-racism training for all civil servants.
- I think the Calls to Action are nearly being upheld but as many people have said, it is taking too long and is not quite there yet.

• Canadian Indigenous Women are disproportionately affected by all forms of violence and are significantly over-represented among female Canadian Homocide victims. They are also far more likely than other women to go missing. The exact number of indigenous women and girls that have gone missing or have been murdered in Canada over the past 30-40 years is in uncertain, with estimate ranging from approximately 1000-4000. Despite the overwhelming numbers, the Canadian government has been slow to respond to the crisis. Indigenous activists have been organizing protests and vigils relating to missing and Murdered women for decades.

•Indigenous people do not get enough mental/physical support from the government. They feel they have nowhere reliable to turn for protection.
•The Aboriginal colonies are very far away from the rest of the country's population so their issues aren't properly addressed. Also, the rest of the country is mostly unaware of this issue.
•The government doesn't give the amount of attention needed to this issue.
•Indigenous men were the leads of some of the murders but the RCMP didn't put in effort to support the women.
•In the highway of tears case, the RCMP has given up on trying to find the serial killers thus the justice of the murdered women is on the hands of private investigators and the victims' families.
