It is important to constantly think about what will transfer over to reading and writing with word activities.
As an educator you have to think about what is useful and purposeful to the student now rather then giving them new information they will not be able to transfer or apply in their next learning task.
There will be students who regardless of the transfer strategies you use, they will " just not get it". These are the students you will need to spend one-on-one or in small groups to figure out how to further help and figure out what they know.
