Misery and slavery

Old Major has seen it fit to dispose his "wisdom" onto his comrades at the farm they tirelessly slave at. Coming to the conclusion that "man is the only real enemy" and must be stopped for animals to truly live a happy and controlled life.

Currently on page 49 and have thoroughly enjoyed my reading throughout the book so far. I find it fascinating the connections one is able to make between the book and socialism and at that time communist Russia. So far as the book has developed so has my level of interest drawing me further and further into the novel with each page.

The tone of the book is antagonistic. The focus is on a farm that has overthrown their owners and is now being run by a socialist/communist regime of pigs. The author an American, makes it clear that communism is not our friend or anyone's friend for that matter.

The author uses sentence structure to drive home the style of the book, using shorter quicker sentences when the animals are excited about a certain topic, while dragging out the sentences when the animals are either discussing or fighting over a certain topic. Using this method to capture multiple important events throughout the novel, from the royalty of the pigs, to the overthrowing of Squeakers.

Animal Farm by George Orwell is a written masterpiece that encompasses the very prudent theme that absolute power corrupts absolutely. Early in the novel the animals overthrow the farm owner and create their own farm in which they control everything, creating what they believed to be an equal society. However as time goes on the pigs of the farm begin to gain power and as the theme suggests, they quickly become corrupted. This novel continues to examine human nature on how those who gain power can quickly become corrupted, showing a strong relation to Macbeth in which power is not always good. Overall I would suggest this novel, it was not an extremely difficult read, however it challenged you intellectually and made you think posing philosophical questions throughout.
