      <title>Lecture 5: Discussion by Marlee Tichenor</title>
      <link>https://padlet.com/mticheno/rh72dexn86izxhk8</link>
<description>What do you think of Martin&#39;s critique of the scientific &quot;fairy tale&quot; of the sperm and the egg? Had you thought of it before? Are there other scientific imaginaries that you think could be similarly analyzed?</description>

The egg is not passive; it is active in its selection.<br><br>In the minds of many people in China, menstrual blood is considered toxic, and the flow of menstrual blood in women is seen as a way to detoxify. <title>I think Martin&#39;s &quot;the egg and the sperm&quot; shows exactly how much culture can affect and shape our understanding of not only medicine but the human body and its basic functions. Gender plays an essential role in everything fertility related and we can always see the asymmetrical responsibility in fertility between men and women (birth control for example)</title>
