The reason was when the first fallen soldiers returned from Afghanistan on route to the coroner an individual felt this was so important to recognize our fallen soldiers that a bill was passed. The reason this is so significant to me is that my great grandfather was in World War II and was credited with the sinking of a German U-Boat, and while he is no longer alive (2017) he and every Canadian soldier is so important to our history and why we have the freedoms we do. I will be forever grateful for his sacrifice and all of the soldiers that fought on our behalf. Lest we forget.

His name was Terry Fox and he planned to run so he could raise money for awareness due to cancer researcher. Terry never gave up, he always said "anything is possible if you try" He always pushed himself and kept positive even though he know he was at his last breaths during the run as he couldn't finish and had to go to the hospital were it found out the upsetting news the cancer had spread to his lungs. There was so may motived by the way Terry pushed himself and did what he did with cancer. He called his run "The Marathon Of Hope."  He started his run in St. John's, Newfoundland but had to stop outside Thunder, Bay Ontario. Terry Fox sadly passed away June, 28th, 1981. It was an upsetting time for everyone but we have kept his memory alive . To do so every year on September. 15th, I also loved doing this in public and high-school. It really is motivating and powerful to see how much Terry Fox has impacted us as a whole. The Act gave provinces the power to determine how cannabis would be utilized in the nation concerning laws and regulations. Most provinces came to a civil conclusion on how cannabis should be portrayed throughout the nation. This resulted to be around $675 million a year that would later contribute to Canadian society. This was impactful but led to a lot of controversy and debate. Cannabis has been legalized for more than a year. Has it made an impact on society in regard to economic factors that would later benefit the county? In my opinion, I believe that the Act contributed tremendously to the nation through economic and cultural factors. Since the Act has been passed, the legalization of cannabis has led to a healthier society in correspondence to a reduction of harmful substance use, less finding for the ‘black market’, decreasing of criminalization for use, economic opportunities and have substantially  reduced medical conditions.

During the middle of the 2018-2019 season the Raptors took a big risk in re-building their team. Raptors then ended up making the playoffs with their new team, wining the Eastern Conference Finals for the first time ever advancing to NBA finals where they were victorious. 
This had a huge impact on me and all other Canadians because for the first time ever, a Canadian basketball team won. Although this could happen again, this was a huge historic event that went down for Canadians and we will be able to tell our children that we witnessed it live for the first time. In the 2018 NBA off-season of Masai Ujiri, President of Basketball operation made 2 major decision that left sour taste in Raptor fans’ mouth. First decision, firing Dwayne Casey the 2017-18 NBA coach of the year. Nick Nurse who was assistant coach for the Raptors was promoted to a Head Coach position. Second decision, making a blockbuster trade to acquire Kawhi Leonard who only has one season left on his contract, and recovering from an injury. Kawhi also had made it very clear that he was not interested in any teams other than a Los Angeles team, as he wants to go home. To make this trade happen Masai traded the franchise player DeMar DeRozan, who had played last 9 seasons for the Raptors Franchise. Despite Kawhi only playing 60 out of the 82 games Raptors managed to be 2nd in their conference with a record of 58 wins and 24 loses. Raptors had tough road to the Finals as almost barely were able to make it past Conference Semi-Finals as they beat the Philadelphia 76ers in game 7 by 2 points with a Buzzer beating shot from the one and only Kawhi Leonard. Conference Finals were not easy either Raptors lost their first 2 games of the series to Milwaukee Bucks. Raptors managed to win next 4 games to close out the series and move on the NBA Finals, where The Golden State Warriors were standing in their path to acquiring their First Larry O’Brien. In the Finals, Raptors were going up against an Injured Warriors team. Despite all the injuries on Warriors, Raptors were still the underdogs going into the series. Raptors manage to close out the series in 6 games and winning their first NBA Title in franchise history. 

Raptors were not only Toronto’s team, but also Canada’s Team. Raptors are the only Canadian Franchise in the NBA. Raptors had many Jurassic Parks set up around the Canada where people would come together and watch the Raptors play during the Finals.

The Raptors Championship Parade took place on June 14, 2019. The pic below was take on intersection of Adelaide St W and University Ave. I remember being there and seeing Kyle Lowry hoisting the Larry O’Brian Trophy, and Marc Gasol chugging down a whole bottle of wine. This was the first parade to celebrate a major sports title since the 1993 Blue Jays World Series Title. An estimate of 2 million people attended the parade. It was great to see the whole Nation come together and rally behind a team.

This team has been faced with many heart breaks and let downs. From injuries to countless losses. This team, in 2017, worked so hard to get to the finals. On December 9th,  2017, I remember watching the MLS finals at home. I was so excited because at the time, I loved Toronto FC and watching them make the MLS finals for the first time was exciting. That night they played at home against Seattle Sounders and the pressure was on for Toronto. The game was goalless in the first half of the final but the second half is everything started coming together. In the 67th minute of the game, Jozy Altidore, one of Toronto FC star players scored the first goal for the team. The excitement from the crowd in the stadium wild. Everyone jumping out of their chair celebrating the goal that put us in the lead 1-0. Finally, in the 94th minute of the game Toronto FC scored their second goal which had secured them their victory. Victor Vazquez scored their winning goal and the whole BMO field stadium was going wild. A moment most Canadians will never forget, a moment where their home team wins their first ever championship and wins it at home.

Many people may not know this but basketball was originally created in Canada so the fact that we do not have as many teams as the states it has lowered our chances of getting that far into the playoffs much less winning the championships. So far the Raptors to be the only Canadian team to win is a huge accomplishment for Canada and made a big impact in history. 
This is a huge impact towards me because I grew up watching and playing basketball with my older brother and we would always watch the Raptors as well as many other teams. But this was an accomplishment that I got to witness so it made it very exciting because it is the first time we have won the championships. This also impacts young children living in Canada because it shows them that even if the states has more teams they're able to achieve just as big of things as they are. As well as shows them they can get far in life when they give it their all. Although we could always win the championships again the NBA season of 2018-2019 will always be a mark in history because it was the first big win.

In the NBA there is only one Canadian team and for years they have been undermined. I have been watching basketball for as long as I can remember. I played all throughout my elementary and high school years acquiring many accolades. while I was out with my friends the night of game 6, even though I do not currently live in the Toronto region I told myself that I will definitely be at the championship parade and it was amazing. the energy was unmatched. it was one of the largest championship gatherings in recent years accumulating around 2 million people. the number of people that I laughed and talked with that day was amazing everyone was there for the sole purpose to celebrate a sweet victory. I took plenty of photos but this is undoubtedly one of my favourites. the energy is palpable.

Johnny is not remembered for his thousands of homeruns or stolen bases. He is regarded by most as an “all glove, no bat” type of player. Through his interviews and off field personality, he had become a fan favourite over his 7 years with the Toronto Blue Jay. 

Tragically, John’s father had passed away 5 days before Father’s Day on June 15th, 2010. John would bury his father on June 18th, 2010 and be at the Father’s Day Blue Jays game 2 days later. Earlier in the week, John and his father had been laughing at how he had not hit many homeruns this season. His father stated, “hit your next one out for me and then point at me in the crowd.” 

John arrived at the Father’s Day game late, but he would end up making one of the most iconic Blue Jays memories to date. Late in the last inning of the game Jonny had asked to play. Cito Gaston, the manager of the Jays obliged and subbed Aaron Hill for Jonny Mac in the 9th inning, for one at bat. Johnny would see an 0-1 curveball come his way and he would hit his 28th career homerun on Father’s Day, just days after his dad had passed away. With 27 homeruns in a 17 year career, Johnny was destine to hit one that night.

There were no dry eyes in the stadium or anybody watching at home. I can personally say this is the only time I had ever gotten emotional watching a baseball game. Johnny fulfilled his promise to his dad by pointing up to the heavens after he hit that homerun for him. 

Every single baseball fan in the city of Toronto will say Johnny Mac is a legend. This moment will forever live on in my memory and in the memory of many other Canadians.

This concert was broadcast by CBC and had millions of views as well as thousands of attendees. The concert took place at the Rogers K-Rock Center. In conjunction with this concert their entire Farewell tour sold out tickets within minutes of the ticket sales going live. This farewell tour was dedicated to Gord Downie following his cancer diagnosis in 2015. The final concert on August  20th, 2016 was so memorable and will never be forgotten as this was the last time he was able to perform and the last time you would ever see The Tragically Hip again. The band touched the lives and resinated with many Canadians as well as won many awards and hit number one on the Canadian music charts several times. I can remember growing up listening to their music with my parents, as well I remember watching this concert with my whole family gathered in the living room at my grandparents house, it was defiantly a concert to forever be remembered and a great experience that I shared with my family.

What most people do not know is that the Titanic sunk in Canadian waters. This is something I was told by my dad when I was younger, and I did not think it was that big of a deal because I had not yet experienced how big of an influence the Titanic was on so many people worldwide. I believe that it is fascinating how popular this story is and the fact that it happened in our country near newfoundland is so interesting. I believe more people should know about it because it makes up a big piece of our history. We have the world’s largest man-made moving object on earth, at the time, in our waters (Smith, 2017). On top of sinking in Canadian waters, the Titanic movie gave Canadian singer Celine Dion a huge boost in the charts and her career because of her song that is used in the movie “My Heart Will go on” (Van Evra, 2017). These facts only show how much of a Canadian staple the Titanic is to our history and how I will always remember this as a Canadian heritage.

A document that is used daily in Canadian Courts, legislatures, and in the Parliament of Canada. The Charter ensures that the rights of a Canadian are not overruled by laws and ensures that Canadians and anyone in Canada receives the rights that they are duly entitled to under the Canadian Constitution. The Charter was added to the Canadian constitution 1982 when Pierre Eliot Trudeau was the Prime Minister. Though controversial at the time of proposal and enactment the Charter of Rights and Freedoms has shaped Canada, its rules and laws that govern the country as well as changed the lives of Canadians for the better I believe. Politically speaking one of the most controversial clauses the Parliament of Canada and or any legislature provincial or territorial can invoke is the notwithstanding clause which allows government to override the rights of Canadians for a period of five years at a time. The notwithstanding clause has only been used a handful of times and mainly in Quebec do to the fact that its politically controversial and politically unpopular. Until the PCs took power in Ontario under the leadership of Doug Ford the notwithstanding clause had never been used in Ontario. That changed when the current provincial government used it to cut the size of Toronto city council. The notwithstanding clause has never been used to this day by the parliament of Canada. Ask any Canadian about the constitution and likely one of the first things you will hear about is the Charter of Rights and Freedoms. The implementation of the Charter of Rights and Freedoms improved Canada and improved the lives of Canadians. To this day the Charter has an enormous impact on the lives of all Canadians and people in Canada I believe for the better.

While he was in the hospital, he decided that he would run across Canada to raise money for cancer research. Terry began his Marathon of Hope on April 12, 1980 in St. John's, Newfoundland. 
He ran from east to west coast of Canada and never gave up. He always remained positive throughout his journey across Canada. He kept running until he had to be rushed to the hospital to find out the cancer had spread to his lungs. An entire nation was saddened and stunned at this news. Growing up, I remember running for Terry Fox at school and donating money to cancer research. It was an important part to starting every school year and made a difference.

Since then, countless of wicked acts against indigenous peoples   have been sweeped under the rug for countless of decades without little to no recompense. Several complaints have been sent to the government regarding several cases of missing indigenous women which been always ignored. on June 3rd 2019 the government of Canada released an official report and promise to further investigate the ongoing crisis.  The National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women gave its finalized report to the public at a televised ceremony in Quebec on June 3, 2019. I think it is historical relevant to us all as we can see a slow shift and much need recognition/justice for the Native people of this land. Here is a relevant statement by  P.C Maryam M,

It is essential we protect , honor and acknowledge the position of indigenous people in this country especially if we claim to be progressive and hail equality regarding human rights.
