I expect them to forget all the harsh words they hurled at each other and mourn their daughters death. Juliet is not only their one daughter but their only child. Knowing someone that you love lost their life to depression takes a toll on a human.

The reaction Juliet's parents had towards Juliet's death was what I was expecting. Disagreements and arguments can happen often in families, no matter how big or bad they are. Juliet was their only child, of course her parents truly loved her. The death of a family member, and a child at that, has a big impact on people. It is truly a tragic thing.

The irony of this scene occurs when Juliet's parents and the nurse start crying and mourning her death. However, the audience, Friar Lawrence and Juliet are aware that she is not actually dead. The reader also knows the plan in which Romeo is supposed to retrieve Juliet from the tomb and run away with her.

Because Juliet was killed before she could be married, (according to Lord Capulet's point of view) Lord Capulet says that Juliet's 'husband' is death. He says this because when women get married they are part of their husband's family, and so when Juliet becomes one of death's victims, he compares it to her being married to death (which would make death his son-in-law). This is significant because it shows how remorseful Lord Capulet is over Juliet's death but also just how much the marriage mattered to him (he still mentions it after his daughter has died).

This scene uses the first definition of irony. The irony in this scene is that while all the other characters in the room cry and weep about Juliet's death, Friar Lawrence, Juliet, and the audience know that she is not really dead. The audience and Friar Lawrence know that this part of a larger plan to get Romeo and Juliet together, so there is no reason to get upset over Juliet's "death."

This shows that they both cared greatly about Juliet. However, Lord Capulet's reaction was different from this because even when he took time to acknowledge his daughter's death, he still ends up referencing her marriage and already begins to plan her funeral, which makes the reader think he is almost trying to 'clean up the mess'.
