Week 3: Documentation

In this week's readings, documentation was the overarching theme. Just like Rinaldi said in their essay, documentation can be shown through anything-- pictures, videos, blogs, etc. What determines the quality of documentation is the picture it paints. In this week's Padlet post, we included a picture of our mind map during class discussion to show our thoughts on documentation and the most important concepts we learned about it. Observation is the key to success in a classroom as it allows teachers to adjust their lessons and activities planned week by week. Teachers can begin to understand where students need more guidance and improvement and where students thrive.

See you next week!

Mya

Week 4 - Learning about purpose of Puppet shows and teacher- child relationships!

This week we began to read articles about the teacher child relationship. As a group we discussed how important group time for a classroom is. Group time can influence the positive of an interactive classroom. Going through with that we began to talk about how teacher boundaries are very important. As future educators we all agreed that having setting rules with our students will help make the relationship between them and us will be good. During week 4's class we began to start sowing to get the feel of it . We got small pieces of fabric, string and needle and learned small things. We were all beginners but all agreed it was good to start that rather then sowing the puppet. Lastly, during class we began making up some parts of the plot for our puppet. We enjoyed doing this and very excited to see how much this can help with our future as educators. -Gia

This week's readings allowed us to discuss ways to enhance the experience of students in our classroom. The comic we read asked a series of questions

that I would ask myself in my future classroom including “Is productive work going on?”, “Is the work linked to student questions or interest?” and this

sparked discussion amongst our group. We talked about how observation and reflection allow us to ensure that students are engaged in the class content and

looking forward to coming into class everyday. In addition to this, a big topic we talked about this week was quality in education and how education differs

across the globe. We agree that inclusion is an important part of this and that we teach students from a young age to respect other cultures and understand

that education is not just a uniform thing but, it differs from place to place. For puppets this week, we had our materials together in a bag and began cutting the outlines we were provided. It was not too difficult and we did not get to sewing yet! -Peyton

This week was a really chill week for us. We had two missing from our group so all we did was sew our puppet, as well as write peer reviews. This week we were reading about poverty, inclusion, and disability. We learned about how to talk about inclusivity in the classroom. We also watches the movie Poor Kids and saw a bunch of different kids stories in poverty and how it effected their schooling. We all took different readings to read and write about this week as well. We all learned about the different opinions about the readings while doing peer reviews. Overall, we had a good week!

In this week's class meeting, our group spent most of our time sewing together the pieces of our puppet. In the background of our selfie, you can see our supplies scattered around the table-- scissors, foam, felt, etc. Because our group was separated last week, we also focused on getting all of our members up to date on upcoming assignments and due dates. As such, during the last 45 minutes of class, we worked on our platform papers. In class, Corrinne helped us whenever we had questions about our puppets or papers which proved to be very helpful! By the end of class, most of our group has gotten through at least half of their sewing bits for their puppet. We are all just about ready to start assembling our personas and are planning on finishing them in the two weeks after spring break. After spring break we also plan on working on our script and continue to iron out the kinks. We all are excited to finish our puppets and script and cannot wait to start practicing for our big performance!

Until next week!

Mya

This weeks class was super nice to catch up with Mya and Gia! We didn't have class last week so today we created a google doc plan to assess where we are at with the puppet project and what we need to begin focusing on. We planned dates to meet later in the week to focus on our script and, for the rest of class we continued sewing and stuffing our puppet. We completed the arms and finished putting the head and body together. Overall very successful and productive day! -Peyton

This week as a group, we finished by getting our clothing over break and distributing it to each other. We then began to go through the puppet script checklist. We first prioritized the synopsis, and setting. We changed a few things up with making it easier to read. We made everyone a certain color, moved our 3 songs to the middle of the script so it was easier for our professor. Maddie,Peyton and Gia Did our ECE theories presentation. We talked about the theorist John Dewey. John Dewey related to the articles we read this week with the understanding of " Learning by hands on and not just memorizing". This class period was a bit short because our main focus was on the script.

-Gia

It actually went really smoothly and we recognized places in our script that needed small

adjustments and we also realized how we should seat ourselves throughout the actual performance. We all had a lot of fun and laughs walking through our script and performing

our songs! We all felt extremely accomplished knowing that our puppet show was finally put together and we are confident it conveys a positive message to ECE students! Also,

Gia brought her roommate along to help be the voice of a background character in our video!

We began to talk about the descriptions of our puppets and begin to think about writing our script. We also were a bit nervous about the sewing part. None of us know how to sew so we were a bit nervous. We also got the plan of when we were gonna get all of our supplies with our TA Corrine. This is all we have for this week !

see u soon!

Gia

This week every group performed there script for the rest of the class! We were nervous and excited to finally see our hard work with both the script and puppet making come to life. The other groups did an incredible job converting positive messages within there scripts that we believe would be extremely beneficial to ECE students. Overall, performing and singing to other college students was definitely a nerve wracking experience but it turned out to be very rewarding to see everything come together. Seeing it live allowed me to further understand how effective these puppet shows can be for young students to be entertained but also understanding a important concept. Lastly, we presented our multimedia portfolios and discussed what we found beneficial about using padlet. It was neat to see 15 weeks of puppet making show progress throughout everyones pictures and it seems like we all found the platform of Padlet to be useful and a huge asset to our learning in this class. It was a very accomplishing feeling leaving class today! - Peyton

This week we started the finishing touches of our puppets! We hot-glued the skull and cardboard mouth together and after a while, our puppets really did start to look like our personas! Peyton, Gia, and Maddie got their yarn hair rolled out, cut, and sewn onto their puppets, while I sewed the fabric for Sawyer's mouth over the cardboard bits. These finishing touches took us some time finishing and we ended up being the last group to leave for the day. But it was all ok because we were rewarded with our finished puppets after all our hours of dedication. Once we finished with the puppets, we discussed a few things about our show and script and eventually split for the day. This week for class discussion, we learned about the project approach and its ties to inclusivity and community in classrooms.

That's all for this week!

Mya
