I find it very interesting that Aboriginal people used parts of the Xanthorrhoea or Grass Tree in many different ways ranging from cold remedies to tool making. The flower heads along with the bark would be thrown into a fire. So that the fumes could be inhaled which would cure cold like symptoms. The resin would also be used to treat rashes and skin irritations.

Weir, M., & Walker, J. (2013). Koori bush tucker garden. Stomach cramps, diarrhoea and dysentry were treeted with infusions of crashed leaves. The Noongar people even gargled solutions containing Carpobrotus virescens to relieve sore throats and mild bacteria or fungal infections in the mouth.

Health to me means having the ability to enjoy and live your life. If you are unhealthy either physically or mentally it becomes very difficult to enjoy your life. I believe many people overlook mental wellbeing as it is intangible but, I believe it is very important for one's health. People should try to find little things that they enjoy in life and use them to improve either their physical or mental well being. An activity that I enjoy that is good for both my mental and physical well being is wildlife photography in Len Howard Conservation Park.

Cultural professionalism for clinicians when assisting migrants and refugees

Culutal competency for clinicians is important in maintaining professionalism but it is vital when assisting people from migrant and refugee backgrounds. I feel that migrants and refugees being already surrounded in an unfamiliar culture and setting could feel insecure. The high ethical standards that clinicians are held to should include respecting and acknowledging other people's culture to reduce negitive health outcomes that can result of culturally insensitive. I believe I need to learn more of other cultures to better care for people from migrant and refugee backgrounds that I might encounter. In the future I will strive to learn more about the different cultures I might encounter through my own research and from others that I encounter and interact with.

Migrant and Refugee Health Partnership.
