All of his brothers served in the Revolutionary War. If I were to bring Clark along with me, he would have plenty of background knowledge from his many brothers about how to do different things, and how things work. He would be a very experienced person to accompany me. Something else that he was acknowledged at war building forts, draw maps, lead troops through countries of our enemies, and fight the Indians in those areas. He would be perfect because he could help protect me and help us find our way around.

He was at least six feet tall and was a very built man. This would allow for more protection towards me and everybody else. He would be a very good person to use as a self-defense mechanism. Even though he had trouble with grammar and his spelling, I could possibly be able to fill in that portion, while he fights off our enemies. He knew a lot about the geography of the new land that he explored because he was the expedition’s cartographer. This meant that he created and interpreted new maps of the land. He is not only physically fit, but he is very well knowledged as well!

I would take Private John Collins along with me on my expedition because he was a very incredible hunter. According to my resources, he was one of the five main chief hunters. Hunting was not always easy back then. He would provide me and others with hides from prey that could keep us warm throughout the winter storms, and the freezing cold. Hides also provided for good shelter-building materials which could also keep us safe from predators, and warm all throughout the colder months of the year.

Unfortunately, back then, Collins was arrested for getting very drunk and sentences to 100 lashes on his back. This does show that he could become untrustworthy and irresponsible. However, he was a really good hunter which is needed for clothing and shelter, and he was also relatively physically fit. Therefore, based on that, I would gladly take him with me to protect me and provide me and the rest of the people coming along, with plenty of food.

During this time, Sacagawea was a very important aspect of the Lewis and Clark expedition because she was in charge of being a translator along with her husband, Toussaint Charbonneau. She was kidnapped whenever she was 12 years old. She would know a lot about who seem like an enemy and who seems like an ally based off of their traits, appearance, and personality. She was also a slave, which could help us to know how to deal with enemies that we encounter. Then, during the Lewis and Clark expedition, she traded a few horses in order to help Lewis and Clark out whenever it came out travelling. She is a very good trader and she can also negotiate.

Whenever the whites encountered Sacagawea during the trip, they were always friendly towards her. This would cause people to be somewhat friendly towards me. War parties never travelled with a woman, keeping not only Sacagawea, but also me safe. However, after giving birth, she died of a medical illness that she had her entire adult life, which could have caused her to not be as great as her full potential. Either way she was very helpful, so I would choose to take her along side of me as well.

One of the plants that was first discovered was the a cama. This cama was a huge food supply for them. Plants can be made into food, just like animals! The Nez Perce women were in charge of harvesting these crops. It played a huge role in the Native American diet because it kept them fed well so that they do not become uncomfortable. This plant can also be used to make beds! Believe it or not, beds are very important for your health. If the Native Americans fail to receive enough sleep, they will become sleep deprived, which can soon lead to high blood pressure, depression, poor concentration and even heart disease. Some of these can even lead to death.

Back then, the shape and structure of the fruit on the cama could appear very unusual. They are shaped like a barrel and formed into three different capsules. These three capsules then form into three more parts that hold the seeds of the fruit. The leaves of the cama plant are very long and appear like grass. In each and every cama flower, there is six tepals, six stamens, and three stigmas. The flowers have yellow anthers, but the plant is somewhat short. Each flower on this type of plant is not a certain shape or size. They appear very unusual but are very beneficial to the Native Americans.

One of the animals that Lewis and Clark discovered, was a Grizzly Bear. These animals attacked and wouldn’t die, even if they were shot multiple times. These animals probably appeared fierce at the time, and yet, they will do. The Corps of Discovery was probably extremely fearful whenever they discovered a grizzly bear. Even though these animals come across as dangerous, they could have helped the American people greatly. Grizzly bears eat fish, and as a part of this, some fish are accidentally dropped. This provides food for the American people. They also have a thick coat of fur. When shot, this fur will keep the American people nice and warm.

The grizzly bear is brown and has short ears with a very short tail. The large body and large teeth may have been very unusual for some of the explorers to witness because not all of them have been around animals of a larger size for their entire life. The large claws would also seem very strange to an explorer because it shows signs of danger, power, and strength. If I were to come across one of these animals, I would be scared out of my mind by these large teeth, large claws, and large body. Finally, these animals were seen as the “kings” during this time period, and something that you don’t want to mess with.

The second plant that I chose was the white Philadelphus lewisii. This plant is not extremely common so it may have been unusual to just see it in general. Currently, it appears to be an individual plant. It has very long stems and it grows anywhere from one and a half to three meters tall. Its stems are a red color and as they get older, they slowly start to become gray. There is not a certain size for each of the leaves; they vary. Usually, these leaves are in the shape of an oval, which means that they are not perfectly round. These leaves are usually a green but relatively light in color. It is a very rough plant and it doesn’t have the smoothest edges. There are four petals on each flower. These petals are almost always white. The flowers smell like oranges and a little bit of pineapple. The fruit itself has small pointed wings as well.

These flowers can be very unusual-looking. The long size may be unusual, because it would be harder for smaller children to reach the fruit at the top of the white Philadelphus lewisii. These flowers do smell like two different things that actually could cause conflict as well, which is relatively unusual. However, these flowers could be beneficial to the Native Americans because birds eat the seeds inside. Luckily, this causes birds to gather close to the Native American homes. Birds were a good thing to hunt because they provided food for humans. Overall, the Native Americans would see this as a very good thing to help provide them with food.

Another animal that was discovered during the expedition was a prairie dog. Prairie dogs were very fascinating to the members of the Lewis and Clark Expedition. These animals built underground villages that they often lived in. Prairie dogs are roughly twelve to sixteen inches in length. Their weight is about 2-4 pounds which doesn’t provide a very good amount of food for the Native Americans. However, they live together, which makes it easier for the Native Americans hunt and gather lots of food. The only other issue with Prairie dogs is that they live underground which wouldn’t be great seen as they don’t have a lot of interaction with humans.

The sharp claws could come across as dangerous, just like the grizzly bears. Sharp claws often show a sign of strength. The Native Americans shouldn’t be afraid of these small animals because they provide them with food to survive. During the colder hours of the day, prairie dogs are a lot more active. They live for a long time. So, if you happen to miss one while hunting, you have a lot more time to try and kill it.

The Oto Indians lived along the Missouri River which is now near Nebraska and Missouri. They had a passion for hunting. Most commonly, they hunted buffalo. They lived in towns full of small earth-covered houses that were in an oven shape. Whenever Lewis and Clark arrived, the Otos watched the soldiers show off their talents. During this, the Otos were referred to as ”the children of a new great father”. Lewis promised a trade, and with this, the Otos were commanded to make peace with all of the other Indian tribes. Every single chief received presents like face paint and medals meant for peace. A council was held with Oto chief, Little Thief. Lewis gave another speech. Peace was negotiated between the Oto Indians and the Omaha Indians. The price and quality of goods was most important to the Otos whenever they were trading things.

The rock itself is a limestone rock. It also appears to be a cave. On the website, it states “‘On a wooded eminence, on the left hand, at some distance from the bank, is a high, isolated rock, which stands like a tower in the forest… some Joway Indians, was told by them, that there was a tradition among their ancestors, that this rock was formed of the dung of a race of bisons, which lived in heaven, but they themselves no longer believed this fable.’”. Sugar Loaf Rock is located in the North. Sugar Loaf Rock can not be publicly accessed, therefore, there is not currently trade within it. Back then, there was tradition between the Joway Indians and their ancestors. Since there is no changes, it is currently owned by the Central Missouri Correctional Center.

The On-A-Slant Village is located close to the confluence of the Heart River with the Missouri River. It's address currently is 4480 Ft. Lincoln Road, Mandan, ND 58554. In the On-A-Slant Village, there was at least 75 different earth lodges. This village held close to 1,00 people and had most likely been created 200 years before tragedy struck. It is located in the South. People did trade back then, but eventually they accidentally began to trade diseases like smallpox. Smallpox wiped out many people in a 1781 smallpox epidemic. People had to try to avoid catching this smallpox which is an example of interaction and the way that they adapted to their environment. The location of the village was also often moving, so they had to be ready for different temperatures, climate changes, and sudden weather changes.
