Our daily activities in schools are global because our community is truly the crossroads of Latin America. This city is #2 in the world for the number of residents who were born in another country. (#1 is Montreal, if you wondered.) When there is a hiccup in Latin America, the impact is quickly felt on our schools who receive new students from these countries.
I'm the former edtech director of Miami-Dade County Public Schools and was the chair of the grad program in edtech at Barry University. I  also was the VP of education at ePals, at the time the world's largest online community of K12 teachers and students, numbering 25 million then in 200 countries. Now I'm an educational consultant who works with schools, teachers and districts both in the USA and elsewhere. I helped design the edtech PD system for the United Arab Emirates in 2007 and worked in 2012 with the English as a Second Language department of the Ministry of Education in Chile, among others. 
I personally believe that all children should be bilingual and that language allows for richer knowledge and understanding of culture. Both of my children are bilingual in Spanish and spent a college semester studying in Seville. My daughter uses that in her work for a major cruise line. My son works for the U.S. State Department but his current assignment is East Asia and the Pacific, so he isn't using his Spanish there. At ISTE I have led workshops, Birds of a Feather, sessions and this year a poster on tech resources available in Spanish.
