What I was wondering during the beginning of the book about Melody was how she was going to communicate and tell everyone what she is thinking. I think this because page 1 of the book explains that she has thousands or even millions of words built up inside her but they are trapped and can't escape. If Melody can't speak or do any of the basics I wonder what people will think about her. Also, in the middle of the book (98-100) Melody starts her inclusion class and I wonder how she is going to react or even get along with the other kids if she can't talk.

There are many ways that I am connecting. One specific way is that my aunt works with people who have disabilities and she is always watching them. Most are in wheelchairs but I am always around them. This helps me connect because Melody is in a wheelchair and has many disabilities just like some of them. Another one is that I was in a wheelchair last year when I broke my leg so I can relate with being in a wheelchair. Last, the book connects to world because there are many people who have some sort of disability whether it is small or big and we are surrounded by them every day.

The passage that created the best scene in my mind was when Melody just reached the quiz competition and she described everything she saw and how it all worked. Also on page 1 Melody was describing how many words and phrase and that they are like snowflakes or colors.

What I can infer from the book is that people will start treating Melody different. The conclusion that I have made about the book is that you should always be your own you and don't let other peoples opinions judge you. Melody has had many rude comments thrown at her for several years until a girl named Rose stood up to people and became her friend. Rose would sit with her and try to talk to her and that helped everyone else see that Melody is not that bad and even though she is different she is still one of them.

Melody Brooks is a 11 year old girl who is in a wheelchair and can't do any of the basics like walking, talking, feeding herself, going to the bathroom by herself, and much more. Melody is a smart talented girl but no one knows it. She spends a lot of her time in a special classroom with other kids like her. One day she gets the opportunity to interact with other normal 5th graders. She finally got a Media Talker which is a machine that she types in everything and it talks for her. Melody tried out for the quiz team. She was the only one who got a 100% and that is the hardest test ever. The quiz team who went was Rose, Claire, Conner, and Melody won the competition for qualifiers and were supposed to go to DC. When Melody reached the airport there was weather so they couldn't make it but the rest of her team did and left her behind. At the end she saw her teammates and they apologized and Melody was better than ever and ready for her next journey.

The main character which is Melody develops throughout the book by becoming more confident and believing who she really is. The beginning of the book talked about how people would look different at Melody and assume things that were not true about her, so it would rub off on Melody. At the end of the book Melody became confident in herself, was one of the smartest kids in the school, and people looked at her like one of them but a little different.

I think the theme of the book Out of my Mind is people should look deeper then just on the outside. I think this because people would take one glance at Melody then just assume things about her when if you really know she is a smart talented girl with big dreams. I think the book was telling us look deeper in people and see who they really are.

The events in the book that made the plot develop in Out of my Mind were when Melody started to go to class with normal 5th graders and meeting a friend named Rose. Then when Melody got her Media Talker and she could start talking through her Media Talker. When Melody and her team finally won the quiz team competition they were invited to DC but there was weather that stopped Melody from taking off and her team left her behind. She also talked to her team when they got back which was a big part of the story. These were all the main events that helped the story interesting and make sense.

I think the author's style had a lot of impact on the book. She wrote from Melody's perspective on the world. It really help understand what people with disabilities are like. The author really put Melody's world in perspective just like other people who have disabilities.

My opinion on the book Out of my Mind was that it was amazing. I loved how Melody in the middle of the book was able to say what she was thinking on a Media Talker. If I were to change something it would be chapter 3,4,5 because everyone was so rude to her and she had no control over it.
