I chose this task as a work that reminded me of The Handmaid's Tale came to mind immediately - The Giver by Lois Lowry. I was able to see the parallels between the two universes, and discover valid points that the author wanted to convey through her work, which overlapped with Lois Lowry. They seem to be in agreement over the fact that a so-called "utopian society" would not be possible without removing love and strong emotions entirely - but without love and other emotions, would it still be an "utopia"? This task really made me realise how different sources can inspire a totally new piece of literary work.

This task allowed me to visualise the exact mechanics of this scene - from Cora's constant walking in and out, to the small movements and emotions that the both of them must have felt in that scene. It made me explore further and feel deeper for the characters, making me notice small details in the book that I had not noticed before. This task allowed me to think about how the book could have been different, and I came to the conclusion that a very unique way to change the story would be to make Rita a spy for Mayday. This was a very exciting and eye-opening task for me, and allowed me to be able to produce interesting work inspired off The Handmaid's Tale. I enjoyed exploring new possibilities to the world of Gilead very much in this task, and i feel like it had benefited me very much.

This task tested how resourceful I could be - none of my friends owned red dresses, and therefore I had to use a long jacket instead. I did not have a headdress either, so I just used a white blouse and tied it around my head. Dramatising the scene allowed me to picture the scene much better than I could've before, and made me truly feel what Offred must have felt at the moment - tense already, from Ofglen's death, and now guilty and ashamed of herself, but also helpless. It was rather difficult to portray mixed emotion.
