The second text appeared in Barcelona, Spain, on February 14, 1897, in the fortnightly magazine in La Juventud. 

The "original" text was discovered in the archdiocesan archives on May 18, 1935, after it disappeared for thirty-nine years from the afternoon of the day when Rizal was shot.

Many powerful people can cover up and forge a completely different story than what actually happened.

So we may never truly know if those said retractions are actually authentic or just some fabrications made by powerful people. During the time of Rizal, many religious officials were corrupt and abused their power. Rizal, through his writings exposed the corrupt friars and made people see their corruption. So with Rizal's retraction back to the  church, all his arguments against them would have a lesser impact. His image as a National Hero would be tarnished, all the more reason why it would be advantageous for the friars. Additionally, with many texts claiming to be the original retraction, it's hard to believe its authenticity since many of those texts have forged signatures and handwriting.

However, may it be authentic or fabricated. Our view on Jose Rizal would not have changed much. Even if he had actually written those retractions, he had already given so much impact on the Filipino people, not through violence but through his writing. What he had written had influenced many filipinos which led to the Philippine revolution.
