The book takes place during the Great Depression. Kit's Uncle Hendrick calls and says his arthritis is acting up. Due to times being hard, and money being scarce, Kit's mother immeydielty sends her to help out her poor Uncle. It isn't too long once she's there that Kit encounters an old eccentric woman named Miss Mundis who lives next door to the Manor. As the two become closer, Miss Mundis reveals to Kit that she has a time portal in her house. She also tells Kit that the very room she speaks of was also used during the Underground Railroad. After this secret is exposed, creepy things and strange events start happening at the Manor. With the help of a friend, she and Kit are on a mission to get to the bottom of these mysterious occurrences, and figure things out once and for all. I enjoyed this book because I love to read about mysteries and "spooky" things.
