On this beautiful day, I noticed one tree (evergreen) was full of leaves while the other has no leaves on it. This could spark conversation in children asking why was the leaves on the evergreen tree still attached while the one on the maple tree is not. We could also explore the two kinds of trees we see a lot in Ontario.

While I was taking a walk, I noticed there are bumps and holes on the ground and I wonder how they were form. This can spark children's conversation about erosion and the relationship between the land and water.

This picture took me back to when I was a kid snd I would literally walk on other people's shoes, and follow the trail of foot steps to an unknown destination. I loved imagining who the person was, what they age was, where they stopped and why. I especially loved, and still do, finding animal steps in the snow. This can spark conversations about the community, animals who live in this environment, how long do foot steps preserve on snow, what are the conditions that make snow melt, etc. -Juanita

Ice formations - Wasaga Beach, ON

I took this picture while on a beach walk in Wasaga Beach. On this particular day, I noticed that ice was wrapped around some trees, fences, etc near the shore. Ice was wrapped around some things, but not others. How did this come to be? Was it from the water in the lake or from rain? Was there a storm (large waves) followed by a big freeze? Either way, I found this to be beautiful and fascinating.

Off the top of my head, I am thinking that this snapshot could fit into an inquiry about states of water, or storms/weather... and many other topics I'm sure.

Sunsets and sunrises

I’ve always been fascinated by sunrises and sunsets, especially the beautiful and breathtaking colours they paint in the sky. Perhaps I just wasn’t paying attention in elementary school science class but I wonder how the sky can produce such beautiful colours and how we have the bodily organ (our eyes) to perceive these colours. Also how do we know if we all perceive colour in the same way (aside from colour blindness)? what does the sky look like on other planets in the solar system where the chemical composition of the atmosphere and the distance from the sun is different? And can we perceive colours in the same way on those planets? - Satoko

While at Mountsberg Conservation Area, I took this photo of sheep eating hay in an outdoor pen. This scene caught my attention because it was a freezing, windy day, and I found the contrast of the snowy fields with the animals eating hay very eye-catching. This could be used to generate conversations with students about how different types of animals survive winter. Additionally, it could bring up discussions about why people own livestock, what sheep/other livestock provide for humans and the environmental impacts of owning/profiting off of animals. - Erin

I took this photo because I am so in awe of sunsets and sunrises, specifically this warm pinky-purple stage at the end of them. I definitely used to take sunsets for granted as a child, as I just started to really enjoy them in the past few years. Although I love to watch the sun rise and set, I have never really understood how these colours are made. I understand the yellows and oranges and blues but it's the pinks and purples that really stump me. This may be a silly question, but I wonder if the changing state of our environment also affects the colours of the sunset. As climate change persists, I wonder if this will alter the way we see the sun rise and set.
