Irish Christian scholars studied Latin, Greek and Christian theology. They made a lot of sculptures and things with metal, and they also made many stone crosses, that can still be seen many places across the country today.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Around the 1840's potatoes were the staple food of the Irish population. It became a disaster when blight (a plant disease) hit potato crops in all of Ireland, and potatoes became inedible. Many people were starving to death.<br>Between 1845 and 1851 two million people died or were forced to move away from Ireland. The population of Ireland has never been as big as it was before the famine. Before there was about 8 million people.</div>]]></description>
