Who is involved: </strong>There are 12 countries involved: Belgium, Canada, Denmark, France, Great Britain, Iceland, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, United States. <br><strong>2. When was it formed (including year):</strong>&nbsp; NATO was formed in 1949 following World War 2. <br><strong>3. Why was it formed</strong>: It was a mutual defense packed aimed at restraining offensive acts by the Soviet Union and to help rebuild war torn Europe.<br><strong>4. What has it done: </strong>NATO has helped quell conflict during cold war Europe and prevent further wars. <br><strong>5. How has it affected Europe: </strong>At first Europe was divided by NATO because of Soviet Russia, but it has now brought Europe together. It was the first peace time military alliance created not only did it provide aid in Europes time of need but it also help stop the spread of communism into western Europe. The overall affect of NATO has been positive.&nbsp;</div>]]></description>

         <title>Balkan Conflict</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div><strong>1.</strong> <strong>Causes of the conflict. </strong>When Josef Tito died in 1980, different ethnic groups began conflicting.<br><strong>2. Who was involved? </strong>Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia, Serbia, Herzegovia, Montenegro were involved in the conflict.<br><strong>3.</strong> <strong>What happened?&nbsp; </strong>Because all of the ethnic groups were neighbors, violence erupted everywhere<strong>.</strong> The groups tried to destroy the others.<br><strong>4. Results.</strong>Around 150,000- 200,000 people died and many more were beat or injured.<br><strong>5. What effects did it have on the war? </strong>After the war, Greece gained control of southern Macedonia and the island of Crete. Serbia also gained the Kosovo region and northern and central Macedonia.</div>]]></description>

Britain and France declared war on Germany following Germany's invasion of Poland.<br>Countries involved- Nazi Germany, Facist Italy, Imperial Japan, and their smaller allies. The allied nations led by Britain, the Soviet Union, and the USA.<br>What Happened- Hitler invaded Poland and France and Britain declared war on Germany. The allies won. <br>Results of the war- End of the German 3rd reign, Us and Russia became global superpowers, and the founding of the United Nations. The Atomic Bomb was invented.<br>What effects did Word War 2 have on Europe?  The global powers in Europe declined and the new world powers rose.</div>]]></description>
