Although there are many problems with the U.S. immigration system, things are getting better. Due to media coverage of the deaths of children in federal detention centers, the nation is aware of the dangers for immigrants. Shelters and churches are also opening their doors to immigrants. Government organizations specializing in immigration have been asking non-profits for help as well.
The leading factor in change is media attention. Immigration is a hot topic and interests Americans. Americans have an interesting history with immigration. Many people were paranoid about immigrants stealing their jobs in the 1900s, which led to restrictions in immigration from certain countries. Ignored is the fact that immigration often results in progress, and that all Americans are immigrants or are descendants of immigrants. But now Americans are more aware about problems with immigration, which is resulting in rallies and groups dedicated to solving or helping with these issues.
The Mexican government is also helping immigrants. The Mexican Navy and Red Cross have been seen helping at a Tijuana Shelter. Additionally, human rights groups have sued the DHS for improperly caring for the immigrants and have also reported on the problems in the immigration system.
There are many things wrong with the current system, but over time the situation will improve.

What are the causes of the problem?

There are many causes of Mexican immigration. There's problems in individual countries, lack of shelters, and turning away immigrants at the border.
Many immigrants seek asylum due to political persecution, immediate danger upon return to their country (gang violence), and domestic violence. For example, many immigrants are from Guatemala, a country that is ranked by the OSAC as one of the top 10-25 most dangerous countries in the world.
Unfortunately, many shelters aren't able to handle the amount of immigrants coming in legally. Immigrant families have to live in cramped, dirty living quarters. One shelter in Tijuana (a border city), Benito Juarez Sports Complex, houses over 5,800 immigrants, or over 3 times its capacity. According to Amnesty International, conditions for migrant families are often unsanitary and lack the resources to care for these families. In response to these problems, the DHS has limited the amount of immigrants allowed to cross border per day. CBP officials have also used tear gas to stop peaceful immigrant caravans, or groups of immigrants traveling to the U.S. border as a group, which sparked outrage. However, America has a responsibility to care for these people, and we need to adapt and change our immigration system for the better.
In Arizona, ICE officials report that government shelters are at their limit. Although non-profits and churches have opened their doors to immigrants, the bottom line is that the government should make it a priority to care for these people. Turning away people at the border is not the solution. Instead, the government should put more money into DHS, ICE, and CBP to allow these organizations to help more people. Everyone deserves a chance to be free and happy, and currently the government isn't doing enough to allow people these rights.

How has this problem affected the community directly?

This problem has affected the community in many ways. Mexican immigration has affected the community by making people take action, bringing attention to natural rights issues, and improving people's lives. Mexican immigration is very influential on individuals.
People have taken action in many ways. They've led rallies and opened shelters. Organizations have also sued the DHS for not protecting the immigrants. Non-profits like Annunciation House shelter immigrants who need help. The Mexican Navy and Red Cross have also taken action and helped at shelters.
Mexican immigration has brought attention to natural rights issues. Natural rights groups have protested and written about issues in Mexican immigration, and news companies have written many articles about the injustices at the border. Disregarding rights is wrong, so of course people would protest the way immigrants are being treated at the border.
Mexican immigration has also improved peoples lives. When immigrants are allowed to cross the border and apply for asylum, they get a new chance in life. They can find new opportunities, find their family, and be safe. Humans have the right to security, and the majority of the people who apply for asylum didn't have security in their life before immigrating. They usually flee due to persecution, gangs, or abuse, all of which compromise the safety of the immigrants.
This problem has affected the community in many ways- and things are getting better.

Why should the rest of the world be concerned about this issue?

There are 3 main reasons why the world should be concerned about this issue. First, the amount of immigrants seeking asylum suggests problems in the countries they are emigrating from. Many immigrants come from countries like Honduras, El Salvador, and Guatemala, which are pretty dangerous places to live due to poverty and gang violence. Traveling from one of those countries all the way to the U.S. border can also be very dangerous. Immigrants traveling in small groups are often targeted for murder, rape, or robbery.
Secondly, children are being separated from their parents. There have been multiple occasions of this. Although this might not seem like a big deal, separating children from their parents at a young age can result in social development issues. It's also just inhumane.
Finally, government immigration organizations are disregarding human rights. Separating families and turning away immigrants isn't a good practice and reveals flaws within the government as well as being very cruel. The decisions made in D.C. have a huge impact on individual lives, and it's important to treat humans like... well, humans.
The world should be very concerned about this issue.
