Following Martin's death, marches, and protests were held across the United States. In March 2012, hundreds of students at his high school held a walkout in support of him.          <description><![CDATA[<div>Floyd was an african-american who was brutally murdered after a store employee suspected Floyd of using a counterfeit 20-dollar bill. Floyd was sitting in his car with two other passengers, while police were called. He was forcibly pulled out of his car and put in handcuffs. One of the officers put Floyd on the grown and knelt on his neck for 9 minutes and 29 seconds. Floyed continued to scream: "I CAN'T BREATH," until he lost his life. Chauvin was fired from his job, and sentenced to 22,5 years for second-, and third degree murder.<br><br>Huge 'Black Lives Matter' protests were held for black people/suspects, who are treated with no justice by the police and are not held accountable for their harmful/racist actions</div>]]></description>

The laws which existed for about 100 years, from the post-Civil War era until 1968, were meant to marginalize African Americans by denying them the right to vote, hold jobs, get an education or other opportunities.
