Why did Google Plus fail?

1. There was a disconnect between Google’s mission (“organize the world’s information”) and what Google actually does to earn a living (“finding stuff quickly, easily and elegantly”). Overall, customers were not interested in organising their information, but using Google to quickly retrieve information.

2. Failed to cater to customer needs, but instead catered to employee's needs, making Google Plus less enjoyable than Facebook.

3. Network effect - more people are on Facebook, therefore it's more valuable to those customers. Few people use Google Plus, so less able to connect with friends and family on that platform.

4. Google Plus failed to offer something new, because the customer segment and market they were operating in already had fierce competition from Facebook.

5. Unlike Facebook, Google Plus were slow to adapt to mobile usage, where most the revenue now comes from. This is because mobile usage is surpassing desktop usage.
