Then: large monopolies and trusts dominated industries, limiting competition, driving up prices, and stifling innovation

Now: there has been increased regulation of businesses to prevent monopolies, promote competition, and protect consumers from unfair business practices.

A downside of the Sherman Act is that its unclear rules sometimes cause confusion in enforcement, like when Standard Oil was broken up in 1911, which some people thought was too extreme and hurt businesses.

Then: There was few rules about air pollution, so factories and cars could release dirty smoke and chemicals into the air, making it hard to breathe and harming people's health.

Now: After the act was passed, there are rules that help keep the air cleaner by limiting pollution, which makes the air safer to breathe and helps protects the enviroments.

One downside of the clean air act is that it can be expensive for businesses to follow the rules, like whenf actories have to spend a lot of money on speical equipment to reduce pollution.

This made it haed for them to find fair and safe housing.

Now: It became easeir for people to find homes without being judged by their race, religion or background because the law protects them from unfair treatment.

One downside is even though the law exist, some landlords or sellers can still find secret ways to discriminate and it can be hard to prove or stop them.
