As she was walking towards the class, a group of white housewives were shouting hateful and rude comments towards the little girl. Due to this incident, the girl had to escorted to the building by US Federal Marshals. The use of word "nigger" on the wall and the "KKK" to the left of the lead marshal clearly shows this is a painting about racism of the white people towards black people back in the 1900's. Also, for the Marshals, they are faceless, which basically represents an institution. Also, in the painting the US Marshals keep Rudy in a frame, in other words surrounding her indirectly and keeping her in a box. Finally, Rockwell did not include their heads for two reasons. One, it already said their role as US Marshals. The purpose of the red tomato highlighting shows the destruction of American Patriotism. Patriotism is also seen through the blue notebook with the white stars that Rudy is carrying.
