Colours are heavily contrasted. While it isn’t as extreme as “Sin City,” the feel of a comic book is present, and the entire film looks “different” than most film.

We can see some shots recreated as they were presented in a comic book.

"We didn't do a whole lot of super groundbreaking visual effects," admits Chris Watts, the visual effects supervisor on 300. "There was a lot of it, and it was done in a style that maybe no one's ever done before. The big achievement in this movie from a visual effects point of view was creative."

Probably(99%) made in a studio with a use of artificial lights. 

On shots that we see light is not focused on a character but in front or behind him. It gives a sense of darkness of this scene.

We have an impression of this scene to be made outside with strong moons light. Shadow plays a major role in a wolfs execution. Where we dont see a wolf but only his shadow.

It remind me of Kuleshov effect. In this situation for a fight.

Windy sounds effects that help to tell where he is and what he have to overcome.

Sounds of the wolf itself also are scary and probably should make viewer care for boys life and show how big and dangerous the wolf is. 

Also, a mens voice plays  a major role in a scene as he tells a story. his voice also build up a tension before the wolf attacks.
