Carl Fredrickson meets a boy named Russel is wilderness explorer who is attempting to earn his final merit badge and he wants to help Carl with something so Carl lies and says a creature keeps eating his flowers and Russel pledges to help and then he leaves but then a construction team nearly knocks over a mailbox Carl and Ellie made together and then Carl attacked the guy and he got sent to the hospital and then it's decided Carl will leave his house after he's deemed a menace and will retire in the retirement home the next day but then Carl decides to go forward with his and Ellie's dream.

Carl ties a lot of balloons to his house so he doesn't have to leave his house and then his house flies away but it accidentally picks up Russel and he get stuck on the porch until Carl lets him in and then the house gets thrown into a storm and Carl manages to steer them out of it but then they get blown to South America and really close to the place Carl and Ellie dreamed of so Carl ties his house to his and Russel's backs and then they explore and they find Doug a dog who unknown to them is helping its master Charles Muntz hunt a very rare bird.

Carl, Russel and Doug go on and meet Kevin a girl bird that Doug's master is hunting and then Kevin disappears and they meet some other dogs who take them to Charles Muntz and Carl recognizes him as an adventurer but things quickly change when Carl and Russel discover Charles' true intentions and they manage to successfully protect Kevin and then when they get back to Carl and Russel's home, Carl gives Russel a grape badge that Ellie gave him and that completes Russel's badge quest and then Doung and Kevin decide to stay and live with Carl and Russel because Carl had found a new purpose in live, Russel was his purpose, so he gave up on his and Ellie's paradise dream.
