         <description><![CDATA[<div>Language and Literacy are connected.&nbsp;<br>Some strategies that support language learners: Online games, Images, Model speaking, Labels, and pre-highlighting.<br>Language and Culture- A culturally sustaining pedagogic approach means that teachers engage students in critical research around cultural issues.<br>By doing this students are more likely to embrace academic literacy.<br>Guidelines to help students link new to prior knowledge include:<br>1.Providing a well structured classroom<br>2.Giving challenging assignments<br>3.Making manageable tasks<br>4.Setting realistic goals<br>5.Providing immediate feedback<br>6.Rewarding success<br>7.Active student responses.<br>Short term memory-Holds information on a temporary basis<br>Long term memory-Permanent memory has an infinite capacity for storing information.<br>Reflective writing may also form a basis for student centered sharing and discussion of ideas.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div><br>Pre-reading Strategies: <br>Anticipation guides introduce chapters and activates thoughts and opinions about a topic.<br>Text appetizers are teacher created introductory paragraphs that offer a framework for comprehending a reading selection by relating the new to the known.<br><br>Reading Strategies:<br>Study Guides are nothing more than a series of text explicit questions supplied by an author at the end of a text chapter.<br>Option Guides is another form of study guide that offers possibilities and predictions to be evaluated in subsequent readings.<br>Analogical guides aim to get students to study new science concepts they are trying to learn by thinking about the properties of similar concepts.<br><br>Post reading strategies: Discussion groups are where students break apart into small groups and discuss what was read. With roles such as participant, Instructor, Consultant and Neutral Observer.<br>Reaction Guide provides a good prelude to a more intensive review when it serves a focal point in a small group.<br><br><br>Multiple text Inquiry Discussion is giving way to the use of multiple texts. Definition of texts are being revised to include a broad range of material.<br><br></div>]]></description>
