Formative assessment is a type of assessment that can provide teachers with immediate information on a student(s) understanding of a topic. It also gives the teacher the opportunity to modify how they are teaching a lesson and or they can reteach a lesson in a new way.

I believe as teachers we should us a variety of assessments in the classroom both formal ex. (tests papers, projects) and informal (ticket out, questioning, observing students classwork). I believe that their should be a balance with both but sometimes that can be hard to achieve. During the day to day activities their should be multiple informal assessments taking place so that understanding of the a subject can be monitored.
