Today, 15/8/2025, we discussed the etiquettes of learning and the etiquettes with the Qur’an. Some sisters shared knowledge that I found very interesting. For example, in the etiquettes of learning, if our pen falls, we should pick it up with respect, as a way of honoring the pen. We should also respect our books by not folding the pages, as it damages the book physically. Lastly, while studying, it is encouraged to cover our heads.

As for the etiquettes with the Qur’an, we must handle it with proper manners because, as we know, the Qur’an is a very special book. We are encouraged to use the siwak before reciting the Qur’an. Finally, when reading the Qur’an, we should recite in a clear voice but not shout.

We also shared a few study tips. First, review the lesson before class and prepare your own notes. During class, we can complete our notes with new information taught by the teacher. Lastly, do additional readings and be ready for the next class.

Today, 22 August 2025, we discussed about ISLAM, IMAN AND IKHSAN based on Hadith Jibril. The definition of this hadith includes the meaning of religion as a whole. In addition, the connection of the hadith with seeking knowledge is that a person who is seeking knowledge must wear neat clothes. Second, if we don't know about something don't be ashamed to admit it and ask even if we are a teacher. Lastly, when someone is talking, don't interrupt.

Moreover, there are some signs of doomsday such as the birth of a rebellious child.

Today, we discussed the topic of the acquisition of hikmah (wisdom). There are four key elements in today’s topic, namely hikmah, niyyah, amal, and ihsan. There are various views on the meaning of hikmah itself, but generally it refers to wisdom, understanding, and the ability to act rightly.

Next is niyyah. Niyyah refers to our motive or intention behind an action, and it should be for the sake of seeking Allah SWT’s reward and drawing closer to Him. As we know, having the right intention is very important because it allows us to distinguish whether something is done for Allah or for other purposes. A good deed performed without proper intention may not be accepted by Allah.

We then move to the next part, which is how to ensure that we set the right intention. Some things we can practise are:

Performing every act of worship sincerely for the sake of Allah.

Purifying our intention by making sure it is only for Allah and not for other reasons.

Being clear about what we want to do and why we are doing it.

Staying focused during worship and trying to manage any distractions.

Being consistent (istiqamah).

Next is amal. Amal refers to good deeds and acts of righteousness, which are also forms of worship. Some examples of amal include prayer (salah), zakat, fasting, hajj, and showing kindness to others.

Finally, ihsan. Ihsan refers to positive virtues that are essential for leading a good life, such as honesty, humility, and excellence in conduct. It also means worshipping Allah as if we see Him, and even though we do not see Him, we know that He sees us.

Today, my usrah members and I watched an online meeting that discussed how to prepare for praying with khushu’. Several important aspects were covered, including wudu and tayammum, the conditions for a valid prayer, the pillars of prayer, and the application of prayer based on different situations.

First, wudu and tayammum are part of taharah (purification), which is a fundamental requirement before performing prayer. Wudu involves cleansing specific parts of the body with water, while tayammum is used when water is unavailable or harmful to use. This teaches us that Islam values both physical and spiritual cleanliness, as being clean helps a person feel more prepared, focused, and respectful when standing before Allah in prayer.

Next, the conditions for the acceptance of prayer ensure that a person is qualified and ready to perform prayer. These include being Muslim, being of sound mind, having reached maturity, being in a state of purity, and being free from conditions such as menstruation or postnatal bleeding. These conditions protect the seriousness of prayer and help maintain order and responsibility in worship, so that prayer is performed with awareness and sincerity.

The pillars of prayer are the essential actions and recitations that make up the structure of the prayer, such as standing, reciting the Qur’an, bowing, prostrating, and sitting. Each pillar plays a role in guiding the movement, focus, and humility of the worshipper. By following these steps correctly, a person is able to perform the prayer in a disciplined and meaningful way, which helps strengthen concentration and khushu’.

Finally, the application of prayer based on different situations shows the mercy and flexibility of Islam. For example, travellers are allowed to shorten or combine prayers, optional prayers can be performed to gain extra reward, and people who are ill may pray while sitting or lying down. These rulings ensure that no matter a person’s condition or circumstances, they can still maintain their connection with Allah and continue fulfilling their religious duties.

Today, we discussed the topic of khushūʿ in Ṣalāh and its importance in shaping a believer’s character and relationship with Allah. Khushūʿ refers to the presence of the heart and mind before Allah, accompanied by calmness, humility, and full attentiveness during prayer. It shows that prayer is not merely physical movements, but a deep spiritual connection between the servant and the Creator.

Allah mentions in the Qur’an that true success belongs to those who perform their prayers with khushūʿ: “Successful indeed are the believers, those who humble themselves in their prayers” (Al-Mu’minūn 23:1–2). This verse highlights that khushūʿ is not optional, but a key quality of true believers.

We also learned that Ṣalāh with khushūʿ strengthens a person’s relationship with Allah, shapes good character (akhlāq), and helps prevent sinful behaviour. Through sincere prayer, a person learns patience, self-control, and reliance on Allah, as stated in the Qur’an: “Seek help through patience and Ṣalāh” (Al-Baqarah 2:45).

Furthermore, khushūʿ in prayer develops several important virtues. These include al-ṭāʿah (obedience to Allah), al-jihād (striving against laziness and distractions), muḥāsabah (self-reflection), ʿiffah (modesty and self-restraint), and tawaḍḍuʿ (humility). Each of these values helps a Muslim become more disciplined, sincere, and aware of their responsibilities towards Allah and others.

For example, through muḥāsabah, a person evaluates their actions and intentions, reminding themselves to improve and seek Allah’s pleasure, as mentioned in the Qur’an: “Let every soul look to what it has sent forth for tomorrow” (Al-Ḥashr 59:18). Meanwhile, tawaḍḍuʿ teaches humility, where a believer recognises their dependence on Allah and avoids pride, which is reflected in the verse: “The servants of the Most Merciful walk humbly on the earth” (Al-Furqān 25:63).

In conclusion, khushūʿ is the soul of Ṣalāh. It does not only affect how we pray, but also how we live. When prayer is performed with true khushūʿ, it transforms the heart, strengthens faith, improves behaviour, and builds a strong Islamic personality. Ṣalāh is not only something we perform — it is something we live by.

WEEK 5 -23 JANUARY 2026-

Today, we discussed the topic of the virtues found in Ṣawm (fasting) and how it plays an important role in strengthening a believer’s faith and character. Ṣawm is not only the act of refraining from food and drink, but also a form of worship that trains the heart, mind, and soul to become more conscious of Allah.

One of the main virtues of fasting is that it increases taqwā (God-consciousness). When a person fasts, they become more aware that Allah is always watching them, even when no one else can see. This awareness encourages sincerity and self-discipline, because the fasting person avoids what is normally permissible purely to obey Allah.

Fasting also teaches patience and self-control. By resisting hunger, thirst, and desires, a person learns to control their impulses and emotions. This helps them become calmer, more resilient, and better able to handle challenges in daily life. Through fasting, believers train themselves to choose what is right over what is easy.

In addition, Ṣawm helps to purify the heart and soul. It encourages people to stay away from sinful speech, negative thoughts, and harmful actions. This spiritual cleansing allows a person to grow closer to Allah and to develop better moral character, such as kindness, humility, and compassion.

Fasting also builds empathy for others, especially the poor and needy. When a person experiences hunger and thirst, they become more aware of the struggles faced by others who do not always have enough food. This feeling nurtures gratitude and encourages generosity, charity, and concern for the well-being of others.

Overall, Ṣawm is not only a physical act of worship, but a powerful spiritual training. It strengthens faith, improves self-discipline, purifies the heart, and helps believers become better Muslims both in their relationship with Allah and in their interactions with others.

REFLECTION

Reflection

During this usrah, I learned that managing our time in daily life is very important, especially now that we are in Semester 2. I admit that I did not update the Padlet immediately after the usrah session, but I tried my best to complete it based on my ability and understanding. This Padlet is not just a normal platform for me; it is a place where I collect knowledge and something that I can refer to in the future.

I also learned that when we make mistakes, it is not a point where we should give up. Instead, we should stand up and keep trying to do better again and again, because Allah sees every sincere effort that we make for His sake. I am truly grateful to my usrah assistant for this semester, because she always tries her best for our usrah and continues to guide and support us.

Time passed so quickly, and before we knew it, it was already time to submit the Padlet. I hope that all the knowledge that was shared can be applied in my own life, as well as in the lives of my usrah members. May all of us continue to become better Muslimahs day by day.
