This video explains 6 tips that a lot of Canadians do not know when it comes to retirement. The key points of this video explain information about LIRA which is in relation to RRSP accounts. In addition, OAS and CPP knowledge. Furthermore, tips on LIF and RRIF, income splitting, and partial conversion of RRSP to RRIF. Even though this video is quite short it helps viewers who are in retirement get better information on their accounts and how they can maximize their funds. Overall this video is great at summarizing ways to be more educated with your money when in retirement.

I chose this video because I never saw these types of tips from other videos and helps me get an inside scoop on what will be effective for Canadians in retirement. This video specifically points out specifics in pensions and investments which are 2 main factors when it comes to retirement and maximizing money for financial security when retired. One piece of information that I found useful was how OAS will automatically start at age 65 unless you decline the request, whereas CPP does not start automatically. I actually never knew this before however, is great knowledge when being of that age.

This video explains the Canadian retirement survey where the Ontario Securities Commission surveyed Canadians 50 years and older. This video helped give viewers insight into what retirement actually looks like. Additionally giving information on retirement-specific percentages of the population of Canada and how they are managing saving for retirement. This video explores the challenges of pre-retirees, household income, investment portfolios, standard of living and much more knowledge on this topic. This video does a great job of explaining retirement plans vs reality to give better knowledge on how to be financially stable. Lastly, it gives retirement saving strategies to help viewers be on the correct track in their finances.

I chose this video because I thought it helped give perspective on how the population of people entering retirement in Canada are actually doing and feeling towards their funds. This video was great in showing knowledgeable data on how the future of retirement, inflation, and pensions are going and what individuals are having to do just to enter retirement one example that was shown was having to sell their homes. One piece of information that I found useful from this video is the comparison of people who are retired and pre-retirees how they saved, and what they did during retirement. This aspect of the video was very useful for me in knowing what funds I actually need for retirement and what the lifestyle looks like for a person who is retired. I never knew the term "go-go stage" before this video and showed that it is the earlier years of retirement where people do more which I thought was interesting in the statistics in the video.

This video dives into retirement income strategies and how specifically to use them to ensure financial security at this time of a person's life. The key points in this video were explaining what retirement income plans are, and giving guides to form flexibility in your retirement lifestyle. In addition, this video explores the main components of retirement from expenses, fixed vs. variable expenses, social security information, required minimum distributions and much more to ensure a good plan for the future. This video also points out healthcare costs which are important during retirement, as well as investment strategies and sustainable withdrawal plans to allow viewers to make rational educated actions for retirement.

I chose this video because not only does it educate viewers on financial security but also helps them find suitable resources to make informed decisions on how they will use and save funds during retirement. This video does a good job of viewing the short-term and long-term parts of retirement and why evaluating expenses with a financial plan is important. The person doing the video is also a financial planner which could help a person who is looking at planning for retirement / in retirement navigate savings, investments, expenses, and withdrawal plans. One piece of information that I found useful was knowledge about managing required minimum distributions (RMDs). I never knew what this was since no other video I had watched on retirement spoke on this. However, this video educated me that it is a required fund to take out a certain percentage from the pre-tax accounts, and not withdrawing can cause a large tax liability which is important to know about.

It allows you to personalize your specific information and tells you how much you need to retire and how much you have saved already. Additionally, list frequently asked questions individuals have about retirement, and have specific answers to help guide in making the correct choices in starting their retirement planning journey.

I chose this website because it is an interactive place to determine your financial goals within retirement. In addition, one piece of information that I found useful within this website was how detailed you can base your retirement plan to be financially stable for the future. Since it is a Canadian retirement calculator it shows market assumptions to take into consideration when basing your calculations such as inflation rates, or Rate of return in retirement net of fees. Overall, this is such an amazing website to start planning for retirement.

What did you learn about your topic that surprised you the most?

What I learned about retirement and financial security that surprised me the most was that debt is the leading cause of why people in Canada have such a difficult time saving for retirement. Before researching about retirement I never knew so many individuals have such large amounts of debt within credit cards and it shocked me that from this debt people do not have savings in their accounts that contribute to their retirement plans. This information was crazy for me to learn about and is one of the most beneficial aspects that I will take away in not doing when it comes to my finances in the future. Another thing in relation to this was not starting a retirement plan until late in life. This was another aspect that surprised me in knowing since a lot of people often speak about retirement in excitement but do not actively save money to put aside for this time in their lives. These two aspects surprised me the most and from the knowledge I learned from videos, images, and websites I will incorporate the information into my life to be successful in the future of my retirement.

Additionally, learning from my parents that having an RRSP has been the most beneficial and helped them with investing and saving for the future, so I will easily start this kind of account for myself.

After researching all the websites, videos, and images the most important aspect of retirement was to have a retirement plan to help set goals, evaluate savings, and income yearly, and invest now so that you can have financial stability and money to maintain a comfortable lifestyle where you can be fulfilled during retirement. Additionally, with having a retirement plan it would be helpful for individuals in my life to know that the positives outweigh the negatives when it comes to planning since having this can help with emergencies, financial freedom, paying for medical expenses and much more. All these aspects would be a great start for a family member or friend to know about so that they can integrate this into their life and start early on.
