The statement ‘Don’t burn the house down’ symbolises the meaning of a house being a safety barrier or structure around you, this may be a society. Burning it down may be getting rid of it or destroying it, this is the doppelgangers intentions, they want to destroy their society and take over. The chuckling from Red at the end suggests that she knows what’s to come.

The name of the funhouse starts off as 'Vision Quest' and later changes to 'Merlin's Forest. This is a representation of just another way that America has stolen someone else’s culture to use for its own entertainment. The entire film is about how there are certain groups in America (the poor, sick, foreign) who have been cast aside and forgotten, yet their culture and situations make America what it is. America has been built up from these people and without all these different groups there would be no America. The funhouse’s name comes from Native American culture, showing how they're just another one of the many cultures America has stolen and commercialised.
Merlin's Forest is a well know forest from Arthurian legend. It was the location of many great quests where knights had to battle monsters. When Adelaide goes in there to find Red she is fulfilling her quest, she has come to slay the dragon.

In the film ‘Us’, the Hall of Mirrors is used to symbolise duality. On one side, we have someone who has options about what they want to do and the ability to live however they want, and then there’s the reflection, who is forced to imitate and do exactly as the other does, much like the tethered. A hall of mirrors creates a confusing world where reality is indistinguishable from our reflections. Very similar to how in ‘Us’ it is difficult to decide who the villain is and who the victims are, especially when the presumed ‘villains’ are almost completely identical to the original people.

Red’s scissor represent freedom. They are the ‘tethered’ meaning they are connected to their human counterpart. Red is going to free herself, and the others, by symbolically cutting this tether, which means killing their opposites, much like the 3 Moirai from greek mythology. By cutting out the human chains, Red is also showing how the scissors bring freedom, and unity- the scissors allow the tethered to come together on the surface world. Scissors further represent the theme of duality- they are a symmetrical object, which are the same on both sides. When opened, they also reflect the number 11.

The spiders could represent Adelaide and Red, with Red was the fake spider, someone that seems to be dangerous and deadly, since she is the leader of the tethered, and Adelaide is the real spider who at first seems to but harmless, though when it came to it turns out to be very dangerous, like how she attacked and killed Red. Though that first since Adelaide was the real Red she was the fake spider, though by force she became the real one and forced Red who is the real Adelaide to become the fake one.

The classroom of which Adelaide enters on the search for Red, is a beaten down, dirty, broken, classroom of poor description. It symbolizes the poor resources, the African-American population had and still have that halts them from fairly progressing as other demographics would. It symbolizes the lackluster quality of public schools in the American schooling system when in comparison to their private schools, which present much greater opportunities to progress as an intellectual. It's the band aid the American government has put over a destroyed, public education system, that halts the growth of the lesser fortunate. They are expected to know however they have never been taught.

4:44 is the scene where young Adelaide wanders off from her family and is walking to the beach when she passes the suspected homeless guy. The man is brandishing a cardboard sign with the bible verse “Jeremiah 11:11” which reads: “Therefore thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will bring evil upon them, which they shall not be able to escape; and though they shall cry unto me, I will not hearken unto them.” This relates to the tethered seeking to reclaim the surface because mankind had its turn. Mankind had it’s go at making the world a better place and they failed so the tethered with Red leading them as their “God” seek to strike mankind down for their sins. (Although they are in no way just) It could mean that humanity is worshiping false "gods" putting "material wealth" above God and Red is the arbiter of this conflict between the sin of wealth and God.

There is a double meaning if you look into the man himself he seems to be homeless meaning that he was probably just like anyone else, chasing the “American Dream” the idea of always striving to have more, to Be more to be the best. This life of "material wealth" ultimately failed him. The “dream” of getting more material wealth was just a lure, a trap one which this man fell into for reasons unknown but whatever reason it may be America failed him.

In Jordan Peele’s movie ‘Us’, the ending scene shows all the Tethered people holding hands on a mountain range. From my understanding, this symbolizes people standing as one in unity, showing signs of hope, but in the concept of the film, it also symbolizes that the Tethered have accomplished their goal of replacing their counter parts.

The Escalator represents going down into darkness/another dimension of living, only being able to go down further into poverty, unlike the people above who aim to reach the American dream. Adelaide (red) is seen on the escalator going down to face her tethered. The use of an escalator over stairs is to show that the tethered were only able to go down, and degrade their level of life.
