Baptism

Baptism is publicly showing your acceptance of God and believe that Jesus died and rose again. In some Christian religions babies are given their name at the baptism. To some Christians you are baptized because it is demanded in the religion. In others you are baptized when you have made the commitment within yourself to follow God. This is one of the most important stages in a Christian's life. It is when you are considered "given new life." It is when you leave your days as a sinner behind and change to living for God. After this you would be baptized before the church publicly celebrating your "new life."

A Christian marriage is where the bride and groom dedicate themselves to each other. This would typically take place in a church and would be adjusted to the couple's interests and likes. Traditionally the bride would be escorted down the aisle by her father and entrusted to the groom at the alter. A pastor will typically read from the bible from selected verses. Some weddings will have a celebration or reception afterwards.

One of the main beliefs of Christians is that God in the flesh - Jesus - came to Earth to die on the cross. He lived a perfect life, but died as a sinner and took our sins so we could have eternal life with God in Heaven when we die. This means no matter what you did before if you repent your sins and accept God as your savior, and believe that Jesus died on the cross for your sins than you can go to Heaven. Some people at a funeral will make speeches or prayers. After the funeral or celebration of life family or close friends or relatives will gather at the families house. For some people it will be a celebration of life rather a funeral because the people know where the person went if they knew where they stood in their faith.

Roman Catholics will do this practice when a person is fatally sick and near death. A minister would ask for forgiveness of the persons sins if the person is unable to. If the person is cable of doing so themselves they will do so. During this the person would be anointed with holy oil. Anointing the sick is also known in the Catholic religion as Unction. This picture shows a Catholic pastor doing this practice.

In Christianity Godparents are to be present at a baptism and sponsor it. After that day they are expected to take care of the child and take responsibly of the child's religious choices. They would do this if the baptism was for a child. Not always is a Godparent needed in Christianity, or depending on when someone gets baptized. This also depends on how strict the family or church is towards the religion.
