She avoids to do violence in comparison to the rest, and instead desires to live in fear of possibly getting into car wrecks or being shot in the chest. This conversation formed out of Montag's actions of burning the books he's assigned to, represents right from the start that books are not allowed to be read in this setting and high on the illegal list, not even when you're a firefighter who's main job is to burn them alive.
