Creating an origami flower is a heartfelt gesture, especially during Valentine’s season, symbolizing love, remembrance, and connection. For some, like a woman folding one in honor of her late husband, it becomes a tender tribute to a love that endures beyond physical presence. For others, the act evokes memories of cherished relationships with friends, family, or even romantic interests, acknowledging the support and joy these people bring. Yet, it also offers a moment of self-reflection, serving as a reminder to prioritize self-care and recognize personal resilience amidst life’s challenges.

The group unanimously chose Option 2 as a better instructional material in the making of the origami flower. Most of the group members stated that they were Visual Learners and relied on visual cues, especially in a step-by-step instruction manual. Having images to guide you as an instruction is helpful in ensuring that you are doing it the right way, because you have an image you can compare your current progress to. Since option 2 offers visual guidance with pictures, while option 1 is purely word instructions, option 2 seems to be the best instructional material for making origami flowers.

xoxo, SL 2 💋

Valentine’s has already passed, but by doing this love-filled activity, it made us remember of all the sweetness of that day. February 14 only comes once a year but it seems like in EdTech, it will be celebrated all throughout the semester thanks to the warm and caring people in the class.

While making the origami flowers through the given instructions, our group collectively thought of our families. Our loved ones who has been there every valentine’s day of our lives. People who has always loved, cherished, and supported us every step of the way. If we were given a choice, we would still give them origami flowers because first of all, it is very fitting for valentine’s day, second, paper tulips doesn’t wither like real flowers, and third, it was made with love and effort. Instead of just buying real flowers, we found it more meaningful to give them something that we made.

When we skimmed through both versions of the instructions, we found the second option to be easier to follow. Since it provided visual images of how to do each step, we immediately decided that following the second one is easier for us. We preferred the presence of a table with written instructions, accompanied by images, as it allowed us to follow the steps in real-time. It turns out, in doing origami, watching it be made, or having visual images of it, actually helps people to be able to understand and follow the instructions.

This is all for SL 3 for now. Our group had fun making the origami flowers, and it actually served as some kind of bonding for us. Thank you SL 1 leaders!

Love,

SL 3 (MJ, Ethan, Zedrick)

Greetings, SL 1!

Our group was divided into thinking of someone and not having anyone in mind. Those who think of someone mainly involve friends, families, pets, and lovers. Others were too focused on following the instructions or have not given flowers to anyone, hence the mixed response. Mainly the group prefers to still give flowers, given the choice of origami to give as it symbolizes the love and value the recipient is to us, as well as paying respect and tribute to lost loved ones. Tiny stars origami is also an option that was mentioned to be chosen given the chance, as it is often associated with good luck and is believed to give more good luck when you give them away and also it is easier to do than tulips. Nevertheless, the group values the flowers and origami as a gift and tribute to someone special to us.

While making the origami, some of us did different systems on how we assess the two versions. Some read the two versions and followed what was easy to them, some followed both and compared the instruction material, and some used a combination of both versions of instructions. While we find the value of detailed text instructions helpful, the lack of image in Option 1 made it difficult to follow the instructions and made it feel unexciting to follow. The group all agrees that Option 2 was better as the photos allowed us to figure out what the origami should look like after each step and allowed us to recognize the inconsistencies and lack of detail in the instructions. The latter option (option 2) was an improved instructional material of Option 1 as it combines the elements of detailed text instructions along with visual reference which was the key element that made this option more preferred. However, some find themselves to still prefer a video tutorial that they can follow with more details and action guides. In spite of that, we followed the instructions from either given instructions and option 2 was effective in guiding us to make a flower.

turning your limbics into paper flowers,

SL 8

While making the flowers, our group immediately thought of our families, especially out mothers. Our mothers have always loved receiving flowers, and we always try to make it a point to give them some on special occasions. If given the choice to make a different origami piece, we would still choose to give them flowers because they symbolize love, appreciation, and beauty, which are qualities that perfectly reflect how we see them.

Our group preferred the second version of the instructions because it included pictures that made the steps much clearer and easier to follow. Having visual guidance helped us better understand how each fold should look, making the process smoother and less confusing. While written instructions are helpful, we all found that the combination of text and images was more effective in showing the details of each step.

Yours Truly,

SL 7

Making an origami flower made our group think of our loved ones, specifically our mothers. Since Valentine’s day just ended and most people were giving fresh flowers to their loved ones, we believe that giving handmade flowers is just as meaningful, especially since we are still students, because of the effort and thought behind it; for some, it is therapeutic and for others, it is a symbol of love and affection.

Unanimously, our group preferred Option 2 over Option 1 due to its inclusion of both visual and written instructions. This is crucial for us, visual learners, because it makes it easier to follow the step-by-step instructions with precise paper folds, making it a smoother process and a clearer tutorial. We believe that relying solely on textual instructions opens more grounds for vagueness and misconceptions.

And you'll be mine, Valentine,

SL 5 💐

Hello, our beloved SL 1! 💗

As our group made our own origami flowers, we all thought of the people we love: our moms, crush, and best friends to be specific. We may have different reasons why we thought of these people while making the origami flowers, but what's common to all of us is that we want to express our love and appreciation to them. It is a simple but wholesome gesture that may help us show them the love they deserve as much as they made us feel loved this Valentine's Day. If given a chance, we would still choose to give them origami flowers since this gesture is cute and sweet despite the flowers not being real ones. In this way, we also get to be resourceful and creative.

All of us preferred option 2, the one which has pictures that show how the flower would look like as a finished product and during the process of making it. While we acknowledge the fact that most of us are visual learners, we still think that option 2 is better than option 1. Even though option 1 provided complete details on how to make the origami flowers, for us, it is still prone to different interpretations, which may cause the origami flower to look differently.

Good luck this Friday, SL 1!

Umaawit hanggang kusina hanggang sa sala,

SL 4 (Kyla, Icko, Boa, Krista)
