Panning the camera is when you turn the camera around slowly in a full circle or a semi circle to get the view that you want. Panning is normally eye level, It is also used for seeing the full perspective of a shot. In filmmaking panning is used for focusing on someone or something when the background is blurred out. So the only things in the photo or video is the object and the plain, coloured background.
