Though you may not know any examples as extreme as the one described by Butler, have you seen or heard of similar instances in which gender norms have been enforced through violence or bullying?

How does this story deepen your understanding of the relationship between identity, gender, and culture?

Gender, identity, and cultural norms are forced in society in the twenty-first century. Such a violent act could only have one purpose behind it, the disagreement of such sexual orientation. There was a boy in my class who wasn't like the other guys he was more feminine in the way he conducted himself, and he would always get bullied.Although he was feminine he never altered his gender, or his identity, that just who he was, not all men have to match the gender norm. Growing up the bullying stopped and people left him alone, i think its about maturity, it takes someone mature to accept someone who is out of the norm.
