His cousin Dre doesnt let him sell those because he doesnt want his little cousin getting into big troble with people and the police. But Mav goes behind his back and finds another plug with his bestfriend King. With their new plug and selling weed from the king lords, they are both making a lot of money. Mav is making so much money he buys his girlfriend Lisa a gold necklace with diamands that have her name on it. She questions Mav on how he gets the money but he lies and says he does yard work around the neighborhood. After this Mav goes to the clinic with his mom to get results back from a DNA test to see if he has a kid with a girl named Iesha. This is big because Iesha is Kings girlfriend and they named the baby after him. So this could cause conflict between Mav and King.  Mav had sex with Iesha when Lisa and him broke up, but now there is suspicion that her baby is Mavs. When they get the results back they find out that Mav is the dad and he is shocked. But he has to man up and take this duty, so he takes his kid to change him in the clinics bathroom. When he comes out, he finds that Iesha and her mom left without notice and left the baby to Mav.

In the beginning of the chapter he was on his summer vacation so he had plenty of free time and in that free time him and his best friend king decided to sell more hard core drugs besides weed behind Dre's back (his cousin) to make more money and with that money maverick would buy things for his girlfriend Lisa. Lisa was curious on how he was getting so much money to buy stuff for her so she started questioning him but he lied to Lisa and said he was going around doing yard work around the neighborhood to make extra money. King and his girlfriend Iesha had a baby and named him after king but everyone was saying the baby looked a lot like maverick so maverick and his mom went to the clinic with Iesha and her mom to get a DNA test to see if the baby was his since Maverick and Iesha hooked up before they both got together with different people and the baby turned out to be mavericks and not kings so that could cause problems between them since king thought the baby was his. He also quit selling drugs because his older cousin, Dre who also sold drugs, didnt want that life for Mav. So he got him a job at Mr. Carters little grocery corner store. He would work there everyday after school and get sundays off just to have money to help his mom with the rent. Dre was good to Mav, he would help with the baby, whos name is now Seven, he would buy Seven all kinds of different clothes and toys. But one day Dre came by to have a pizza with Mav in his car. As they were eating, Mav heard seven crying so he went into the house to check on him. Next thing you know, Mav heard gunshots. At first he didnt think nothing of it because it was normal to him. But then he remembered Dre was outside. Mav ran out and found his cousin has been shot in the head bleeding out. Mav was devastated. He didn go to school or work for weeks. He finally had the courage just to get up and go to dres funeral. He told shawn he was gon kill the person that did this to dre but shawn just laughed. This made fre really mad but lisa was there to cool him off. She took him to her house and they did the thing. Thats all i Read so far
One conflict that was human vs. self was when Mav had to bring himself together to tell his gf Lisa that he had a baby with another girl. 
One example of human vs. human was when Dre had to tell Mav straight up that he didnt want Mav to sell drugs because it was to dangerous and he should get a real job.

When he got there he found out that king was still selling drugs from other dealers, but since mav wasnt doing it with him anymore, king brought in Junie and Rico, kids from Mavs school, to deal drugs with him. On that same day, A gd that goes to his school was making fun of Dre's death and him and Mav got into an argument that made Mav leave. He left school and Shawn picked him up. Shawn wanted to talk about what happned at the funeral and told mav that he didnt want him going to kill the person who he thought killed dre becausee thats not what dre would have wanted for him. Dre wanted mav out of this gang life and out of the drug dealing. But to calm his mind, he smoked a joint with shawn. Thats all i  read so far.
Mav story starts with him and lisa breaking up some time ago. He was mad so he had to take his mind off of things. So his friend King hooked him up with a girl named Iesha. They had sex one time and that one time he was wearing a condom. So he didnt think anything of it and got back with lisa. But during this he found out that iesha was pregnanat. But he also didnt think about this either because he thoiught it was Kings baby since they were together. But when the baby came out the baby looked just like mav. So they scedualed a dna test. Mav didnt think it was necassary because he thought he knew for a fact that this baby was not his. But when they went to the clinic, they found out that the baby was his and he now has a responsibility of being a parent. He now has to take care of a baby on his own because iesha left the baby with him. But then Mav yells that he did it to get Dre out of his mind. This made Mr. Carter quite but then he had to talk to mav and say that their are other ways he can deal with dre. He doesnt have to use drugs as a way out. And mav listned, he finished his shift and tried to to think about what happned with dre. The next day as dre was about to put seven to sleep, lisa shows up to his house, she tells him that she is pregnant and mav is shocked. Mavs mom comes home and they tell her and she isnt mad but she stays quite. She says this is a problem for mavs father. So she suggest they go see him. This is all i read so far.

One scene from the book that I chose was when Mav was explaining when him and Lisa has sex. I chose this scene because there are many song today that are about sex but there is one song that stood out to me and that was ¨The Take¨ by Tory Lanez which is describing what he wants to do with a girl when they are having sex. After Maverick and Lisa hooked up they hadn't talked in a while so Lisa went over to his house to tell him she was pregnant and Maverick was stressing because hes going to have 2 babies already. Maverick almost gets into a fight with Ant the person who claims killed Dre but Maverick leaves the school and goes smoke weed with Shawn. Maverick is now at Mr. Wyatt's garden high and not working to his full potential. Mr. Wyatt was mad at Maverick for going to work high but Maverick says he was smoking because he wanted to get his mind off of Dre. Maverick and Mr. Wyatt have a bonding moment. Maverick goes to a football game where he sees Ant the person who killed Dre gets shot and killed.

In the book Maverick just ditched school and he sees a big Mercedes Benz drive near him and it is Shawn about to hang out with him. The song money so big is about when you have a lot of money you can get more things you need for yourself and other people. Mr Wyatt's given mav three chances to not mess up his job, hes already been late and caught being high. Dre decided to stop by mavs place to check in on him, they're like best friends even though they are cousins. Anyways Dre decides to grab something from his car while mav was changing sevens diaper. While mav was singing a song to make seven laugh he hears  two gunshots right outside, he bolts out the door and finds Dre slumped against the steering wheel with a bullet in his head. Worst part was Dre was about to get married and has already got a 3 old little girl named Adreanna, to bad she'll never really get to meet him. Mavs having a real difficult time grieving over Dre, lisa tries to help mav get over  dre but one thing leads to the next and Mav ontop of lisa panting and going at it.  (had sex without protection) 


One scene from the book that really stood out to me was when Dre was shot and killed, this was a huge part of the book and really developed the story. Anyways mav was having trouble with dealing with Dre's death so I decided to chose the song "Life Goes On" by 2pac. The song is about the streets taking people's lives, and how even though you lose someone, you can't take time to mourn because that's not what the victim would want you to do - they would want you to live your life because they're not coming back, very similar to what was happening in mavs life.

Mav then goes of on his dad then storms out of the jail. His mom follows and they dont talk the whole ride home. When Mav gets home he gets into another fight with lisa where she says she doesnt need mavs help raising their baby and says some other harsh things. Mav just leaves. Then on thanksgiving, everyone in mavs family is at his house to celebrate. But once king shows up he bring iesha with him and mav is surprised. She asks to see their baby more often, but mavs mo cuts in and says she hasnt been in seves life after she left him, so they agreed on her seeing seven only one day a week. After all of this happens, lisas brother carlos pulls up to mavs house and beats him up, mav doesnt fight back because he thinks he deserves this.

To me this means, at whatever cost, your gonna do anything and everything for your child or the people you love.

I think this book is underrated because not that many people heard of it and only have heard about the bigger book, "The hate you give" and they dont give this book a chance.
