Remake of Giving and Love by Karsten Barnes

"It's not how much we give but how much love we put into giving." (Mother Teresa)
What do you think this quote means?
Do you agree with this quote? Why or why not?
How do you determine the value of a gift?

What Mother Teresa is saying is that the rich can give much, but the poor may not me able to give any. A rich person can throw cash around like it is nothing if they want to. However, a poor person giving is putting themselves at financial risk. Who willing give a way their meal to someone else and go hungry. Mother Teresa's point is that everyone can give but can you do it willingly. I agree with what she is saying, because she is pretty much saying what the bible is saying(Luke 20:45-21:4). The best gifts are not things but many times people. We are social creatures and no amount of stuff will ever fulfill us. The best gifts are those of love and deed. Not just words and stuff.

I think this quote means that no matter how large or expensive the gift may be, if it isn't given with love, it means nothing. I do agree with this quote. Taking the example of the three wise men, they brought Jesus very expensive gifts of gold, myrrh, and frankincense. Although they were expensive, they would have meant nothing had they not given them with love. I determine the value of a gift not just by the price, but the thought that went into it. If you just buy a $25 gift card for somebody, there isn't much thought. But if you search everywhere for the perfect gift, or if you make one yourself, that gift is priceless.

I think that an object with care put into it has much more worth than something made by another.

This quote from Mother Teresa is saying that it's not the size or how lavish the gift your giving is, the love and care you put into the gift you're giving is what really matters. The thought behind the gift. I personally do agree with this quote because I'm not an entirely material person. I care more so about love and happiness. The value of a gift can differ from person to person. Though, if you have put thought and love into it, and the gift makes that person truly happy, you've done the job of a gift. Unconditional happiness is the goal of giving a gift.

I agree with this quote because, it means more when you give someone love when they need it and by giving them something meaningful than just giving them a gift that cost a lot of money and a gift that you didn't put any love or thought into. The value of a gift may be different for everyone, but for me, I determine the value of the gift, by seeing all the love and thought they put into the gift.

I would determine the value of someones gift as how much time they took looking for this one thing, how much time did they spend making it. Not so much how much money did they spend.

I agree with this quote because when we put love into what we give, it becomes more meaningful to who or what we are giving to. When someone reluctantly does something for someone, it immediately loses its meaning because this means that the person is most likely selfish or not considerate. I also agree with this quote because giving does not have to be an extreme gesture. For me, it can be something as small as buying my little brother a smoothie or paying for my sister's coffee. This is so important to me because I am not focussing on the tangible gift that I give someone, or the sacrifice, though small, that it takes. Sometimes, I might also give my time so that I can play video games with my brother, comfort when I let my sister ride shotgun instead of me, or effort when I help my parents outside in the yard or in the kitchen. This is also important to my beliefs because in 2 Corinthians 9:7 of the Bible it is stated that "God loves a cheerful giver". This reminds me of the joy that both me and the person I am serving can achieve if I give with love instead of reluctance.

Yes I agree with this quote, because it feels better to give/help someone with love knowing its something that is meaningful to the other person rather than guessing. I determine the value of a gift by the work/love put into it because, it shows a persons true feelings and intentions.

It is something practiced and is true. A child drawing something for her parents, tho not expensive, is more valuable than gold to the parents.

I agree with this quote because a gift is not important or special unless it comes from the heart. If you give someone a gift as an obligation, and not from love, it doesn't mean as much. I think it means that it doesn't matter what the gift is, but the intent and purpose behind it. Giving should also be because of kindness, and not because other people do it. In church when you tithe, you have to be willing to give because you want to. It only matters if you're a cheerful giver. God knows if you're giving because you feel obliged to.
