Scavengers play a huge role in all ecosystems. The rid an ecosystem of carrion. They eat lots of carrion. Carrion is also known as dead or rotting animal carcasses or bodies. Scavengers break down the organic materials and recycle them into nutrients for themselves and the earth. Some examples of scavengers are Hyenas, Vultures, Raccoons, Golden Jackals, and some leopards. Scavengers are usually the underdogs, they are not usually noticed as much as other animals in the food web.
