Some of the risks to the patient with the conventional defibrillation pads alone included impedance and burns to the skin. The Z-fib pads improve on defibrillation with the addition of 180 micro needles. Potentially, this device could improve resuscitation efforts and both the number of persons that can be revived and the speed in which return of spontaneous circulation, ROSC, can occur.
