My call to adventure started at the beginning of the school year when I came to orientation and received my schedule. This was when I had the chance to get a look at the school and glance at what my life would revolve around the next 4 years of my life. This event illustrates this step of the hero's journey because it was the day I begun my own quest and decided to accept the challenge as do many heroes in novels and movies.

The abyss is the darkest part of the hero's journey, the part where the hero doubts their self worth and must face their greatest fear.In my journey at San Marcos High School, the event that represented the abyss was finals. A great part of this was made up of struggling to pass the tests with A's because of my grades' closeness to a B. One of my major conflicts was Algebra 2; I had difficulties with that class throughout the first semester.  During finals I felt as though I was about to give up but after realizing that I had to win the fight, I felt better and continued to stay determined to get good grades.

The abyss that Katniss faced was when she reached the final step of the hunger games and had to choose who would survive and who wouldn't between her and Peeta. She discovered that she had feelings for him and could not let him die, therefore she decided to do something revolutionary that would change Panem forever.

After conquering finals, I was exhausted and felt as though I wanted to sleep forever. Thankfully, winter break came along and I was able to sleep in for almost four weeks. A well needed break was very appreciated by those participating in finals but not only that, but recently I received the silver knights honor roll because of the hard work and effort I put into getting good grades last semester.

Katniss's revelation was her fury and rage towards the capitol. She realized that they lived luxuriously and perfectly while everyone else in her district was starving and dying. Her anger began to grow stronger as time went by as did her desire to begin a revolution. This will ultimately change life in Panem, especially in district 12.

In the revelation, the hero obtains new knowledge about their life or a subject in consequence of the abyss. I believe that I experienced this after receiving my report card and thinking about what grades truly define.

The abyss wasn't as scary and challenging as it seemed, although I did notice that I gained new insight and perspective on grades. The revelation I received was that I realized that it's okay to not have a perfect grade in a class and not always have a 4.0. This revelation will continue to help me throughout my journey in high school.
