what is phonics? and phonemic awareness? i will explain these terms in different posts, for this one phonemic awareness means, Phonemic awareness is defined as the ability to identify, hear, and manipulate the individual sounds (phonemes) in spoken words. This skill involves blending, segmenting, and modifying sounds within words, and is essential for learning to read in an alphabetic writing system. It is a critical predictor of early reading success.

vocabulary is a huge part of your child's life that can help them with understanding letter sounds and how they sound together. the body of words used in a particular language.

the ability to read with speed, accuracy, and proper expression. which is a vital skill needed for success in the long run. this would mean that your child can read a book with little to no difficulty at all.

you can find many great activities to do with your student at home! one that i would suggest is playing the i spy game but with a certain letter. and see what you can find.

you can also use flash cards that can be english/or both english and biligual words that can be easily taken anywhere. you can also get bilingual books as well to help with fluency ect.

Reading Comprehension is something that every student needs to learn by the end of third grade. It is a vital component that they need later on in life, but some students may struggle with getting resources at home. So, I can provide students with easy access to their local library, I can provide reading worksheets they can take home to practice with, we can make and send home flash cards, and many other ways that I could help them learn more. Now for ell students I can find bilingual flash cards, worksheets, they can borrow bilingual library books as well. But I also would encourage the parents to be focused on helping their students with reading comprehension. They can do this by asking questions with the stories, reviewing the flash cards and using movement to help them comprehend the word better. I can help with many resources, but it all comes down to if the parent is willing to put the effort in with the child as well. That is how we can all help these students learn as much as they possibly can before moving to the fourth grade and on.
