McQueen suffers a crash similar to his mentor Doc Hudson; aka The Fabulous Hudson Hornet. He is out of racing for around four months and is stripped of his paint and damaged parts while out of commission. He yearns to go back to racing but he doesn't have the courage and confidence to start racing again after the horrific crash that almost ended his career.

McQueen gets a call from his sponsers to start training again and gives him an address to a training center. That training center was built by the new owner of Rust-eze Medicated Bumper Ointment, Mr. Sterling, who bought the company from Rusty and Dusty.

McQueen feels that he isn't fast enough so he asks to train on actual tracks, he goes to a track but it's a demo derby. He almost wrecks and ends his career but he still breathes and decides to go looking for his mentor's crew chief, Smokey.

Meeting the Mentor

McQueen makes it to Thomasville and goes to a bar to meet Smokey. He asks Smokey some questions about Doc Hudson and why he was so quiet, but Smokey reveals to him that McQueen was all Doc talked about. McQueen then asks Smokey to train him for his big race coming up in three days.

Allies, trials, and enemies

McQueen makes friends with his personal trainer, Cruz Ramirez, and Doc's crew chief, Smokey. His trials include overcoming career ending and confidence destroying crashes; also getting faster and betting Jackson Storms top speed. His main enemy of the movie is a next gen car named Jackson Storm. Minor enemies consist of Miss Fritter, Chick Hicks, and Mr. Sterling.

The road of trials

McQueen starts dead last and quickly gains placement. He remembers his training and applies what he's learned. He makes it to second place but cant beat Storm, he just isn't fast enough.

Meeting with the goddess

McQueen can't overtake Storm and is just behind him, he has the great idea to pit and put racing tires on Cruz. Mr. Sterling doesn't agree with the choice but Mater distracts him while the get Cruz a new paint job and new tires. Cruz begins her racing career.

Woman as the temptress

Sally, McQueen's girlfriend, ponders him the question to stop racing and become a civilian, or to continue racing until he can't race anymore. He decides to continue to be in the racing industry but as Cruz's crew chief, with Dinoco as Cruz's sponser.

Cruz wins the race and beats Storm. She is spotted by Tex, the owner of Dinoco, and he approaches McQueen to ask to be Cruz's sponsor. McQueen is thrilled but leaves the choice up to Cruz. Cruz happily agrees and gets a new paint job and race McQueen at Radiator Springs

McQueen resides as a racer and become's Cruz's crew chief. He lives happily and healthily in Radiator Springs with his friends. He gets a new paint job which is based off of his old mentor Doc Hudson. The story comes to an end.
